Stainless Pipes and the Mothers Power Ball
The Power Ball works great. My pipes were gold in color with some areas very dark brown. I thought the dark areas would probably be that way forever. Not so.
The Power Ball did a great job. I spent less then 10 minutes a pipe. It does throw the compound all over everything though.

pipes
Use Blue away) or the stuff jay sells (Blue Job).
either is fine. Make sure your cloth is damp and for yellow pipes like yours you should remove shields first for best cleaning. They will look like new but it needs to be done every couple times out to stay that way. I do mine at most shows when the pipes cool or right before I leave for a show.

The powerball makes this job a snap.
I posted about this discovery ages ago & no one seemed interested then.
The standard aluminium polish that comes with the ball cleans up a yellowed stainless sidepipe in miniutes.
Before you try it cut a large piece of cardboard to fit between the body & pipes to keep the spray off the body, otherwise you'll get spraying all over the body.
It is so quick & easy you won't believe it.

If you do try this, would love to see an after picture to compare to the before picture.

Sorry about no before and after pic. I thought I was wasting my time so I didn't get a before shot. Use your imagination. They looked way way worse then those pictured above. When finished they looked way better...

My Pipes Need Cleaning Too!!
Excuse my ignorance, but my BDR pipes are yellowed and I would realy like to clean them. Can someone give the specifics on the power ball (like the commercial name and where I can buy one) and the best cleaning solution??

I sent my headers and side pipes to Jet Hot to be coated. they guarantee they wont discolor or they will redo them for free minus shipping. cost me about $250 and now no cleaning needed. I've had them for about 2 years and the color is the same as when I received them. jethot.com.

I agree the color will stay the same etc. but they will not have the mirror finish the polished stainless pipes will have when clean. Though don't listen to me, I'm working my next car up and it will likely have black pipes.

Hey Bob,
Another product you can try is Blue Magic. You can get it at pep boys. This is what I use for my pipes and rims. Works well so far

Take a look. Constant maintaining will yeild a nice look. 3 to 4 times a month I clean the pipes. Here they are at the Norwalk, CT show after approx 2900 miles.

Be careful with the Blue Away...Blue xxx stuff, it will ruin your finish over time.
Works very well and looks great, but after a few years you'll be regretting it.
The stuff is very abrasive, and every time you use it, it takes the finish off, eventually after a few years of use, you'll be left with brown "rusty colored" pipes you can't do anything with.
I've ruined 2 sets of motorcycle exhausts with this stuff, yes I'm a slow learner..
If you really want to keep that finish, use one of the specialized ceramic coatings like Jet-Hot, The specialized ones do some chrome finishes that look great when done well, they are not the normal silver that most ceramic coaters will provide.
