rear spring question
I had my car up on jackstands to do some maintenance. When I lowered the car and drove it, I got the worst squeak out of the right rear. When stationary, I pushed down on the right rear fender and the squeak was still there and very loud. After searching underneath I finally took the wheel off and found the red coating on the coil spring was worn off in an area about 3 inches long. I rotated the spring (btw it is a replacement from Backdraft because the original springs kind of sagged) about 180 degrees and the spring fits in the "cup" better not allowing contact with anything. OK, so far the squeak is gone (about 25 miles of driving). But,will it happen again? Is the spring moving around in there? Should the spring be "clocked" in a certain position. Do I need to position it so it won't move? Any good information from Backdraft or Backdraft owners would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Skip B
