Default E-Brake handle

My E-Brake handle came apart today...I stopped at a store and pulled up on the handle to set the brake. When I released the button, it flew out of the handle and hit the dash!

It looks like the inside of the button is threaded. I assume it theads into the release rod. I attempted to screw the button back on, but could not even get it started.

Has anyone else had this happen? If so, did you have to remove the rivet holding the handle in place to repair it?

Any insight would be helpful.

Same thing happened to me, I was screwing around (no pun intended) and I unwound it myself. - yeah I'm a dummy!!
I was able to get it back on by putting the break lever all the way down. This allowed the threads to move a little bit forward and I was able to twist it back on. No tools required!

I fixed the E-Brake today. Unfortunately I was not as lucky as Rwillia4…I could not get the button to screw back on, or even get it started with the handle assembled.

I had to drill out the small 1/8” rivet on the barrel of the handle, remove it and force the spring further into the lever portion of the brake assembly before there was enough “play" to get the button to screw back on. This time I used a little Loc-Tite on the threads. After getting the button on, I re-riveted the barrel and was finished.

It now works great and I know that it shouldn’t come back off, since I used Loc-Tite to lock the threads.

It appears the rivet holding the barrel on my e-brake broke and the barrel is loose. Actually if you try to pull it up the barrel bends up and of course nothing happens.

I am guessing I will need to take it apart so I can find how far down the push the barrel and then put in a new rivet.

Any suggestions?

John
