Default fuel pump...

OK, I'm working my way through issues with BDR #183. Today, the electric fuel pump quit while idling at the shop where I was having some work done--new quieter side pipes, but I'll save that post for when I've had them coated and can send a pic and sound file. There was 12v going to the pump...but the ground was just not happening. We "hard wired" a ground to the frame temporarily...but it looks like the rubber cap and connector needs replacing. Any suggestions on where to find something like that?

Tom

Since it is a ground I would not worry too much about the rubber cap. Sounds like you have a Carter pump? Just run a nice ground wire to a suitable ground.

OK, that's good advice. I ended up putting a strand type wire on the top of the fuel pump where it's bolted on to the frame and pushing the cap over the other end...figure the cap will fit more snugly as well. So far so good though I'm not sure which wire is providing the ground. Does feel like the wires should be held on with a screw though.

Yes, it's a Carter...is there a better pump our there?

Thanks, Tom

The Carter pump actually is a solid performer and is not too loud either (nice). The terminals are a friction fit (now that you reminded me). We use electrical pumps on a limited basis here out of safety concerns.

I thought electric fuel pumps were pretty much the way to go these days...and if you ever want efi, isn't one required to get the fuel pressure needed? I guess I thought they were often in the gas tank itself but figured the BDR might have a variety of tank options...so it's on the frame.

What do you use?
Thanks, Tom

For electric it is Carter. Though most cars roll out of here with a mechanical Holley on the block.
