Default Gen 3 BDR?

Jay,

On your web site, in the Showroom section you are listing your latest Serial number Cobras as being built on the Gen 3 Platform. What is this and how is the Gen 3 platform different from the Gen 2? I had never heard this terminology before in reference to the BDR. What SN range are considered Gen 1, Gen 2 or Gen 3?

Thanks!

Hello Mark,
The Gen 3 car as we are calling it began with chassis number 599. It basically incorporates a number of running changes and also adds true knock off 15" wheels as standard equipment under the new base price of the rolling chassis.

We have just received our first Gen 3 car and I can post some details on that when we get a little more familiar with her.

I believe the Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3 reference relates to the creation of full body molds. There have been 3 significant changes to the overall body since Backdraft started. I believe the line for the 1 to 2 split was relatively low like chassis number 30 or something. The exception to that is when we started Vintage Motorsports we actually commissioned BDR to build 2 "Diamond Back Racing Roadsters" which used the old body mold (less fender flaring and narrower overall). These 2 rollers were serial number 192 (Guardsmen Blue) and 193 (Steel Grey) and found homes in Montana and NJ respectively.

For the most part yes. There are a few more manufacturers incorporated in the overall makeup of the car but the heart of it is based on BMW components or similar in design to those components. Much of the manufacturing of components has actually moved inside.

Brake calipers are now E46 for instance... changes are constant.
