Default Pro-Shifter, Short Throw

Has anyone installed the Pro-Shifter, Short Throw on their Cobra? Finish Line is selling the unit - I have had excellent results with a different manufacturer on my 6 speed GTO (also a Tremac), that unit was considerably more money. I wonder how well made this unit is.

The Pro 5.0? I have it and LOVE it. The best feature is that the spring-loaded mechanism ensures that you don't miss 3rd gear on the 2-3 shift. One of the best mods that you can do to upgrade the crappy stock Tremec units. I combined mine with a shorter "Jordan" lever, too. Make sure it comes with the extra lower seal/debris boot...you usually have to pay $20 or so extra for it but it's necessary.

Works great on my T-5. Solid shifts and tight with no slop. I paid a lot more then Enzo is asking for his. Mine was the complete shifter assy with the adjustable positive stops and with the shifter handle.

I originally had the stock shifter and replaced it with the Steed Tri Ax.

It's been great so far.

No comment regarding the different shifter mechanism.

I agree 101% regarding the Jordan shifter. Its expensive but worth it. I got the one with the elongated black knob. I did not get the TRACK version.

FWIW, the Finishline offering does not appear to be the same quality/craftsmanship as the Pro 5.0. This is obviously reflected in the price as well. My $0.02.

It looks like what you get from Finishline is the main shifter assy only. I got mine with the handle and adjusters. of course if I remember correctly mine was in the $150 - $170 range. Might have been a different model.

You probably bought the better one that I did, too. I remember paying about the same. This one lists for $180 and is the real deal...

Just for knowledge, what makes any of these shifter any better than the others ? Why is the stock TKO shifters bad. What about the B&M ?
I'm buying a new 600 Tremec and wanting the best for the money.
Let's get down to the nitty-gretty boyz.

The stock shifter isn't inherently bad, but the aftermarket kits shorten the throw and give you a more positive shift. I drove my car for about 1,000 miles with the stock TKO shifter before going to the Steeda Tri Ax (recommended to me by a local owner) and I've been very happy with it. I don't know about anything about the other aftermarket kits, but the Steeda and the Pro-shift seem to be popular with Cobra owners.

BTW - The shift from second to third is interesting until you get familiar with it.

PRO 5.0, buy it, love it.

for the Tremec, it is the best shifter.

Of course I had one installed on my car...

Kevin, it just feels more like a gated shift, without the gate. Not sure how else to explain it but that I NEVER have missed a 2-3 shift with the Pro 5.0. It is more notchy feeling, but I have gotten comfortable with it and it's not as rubbery feeling as the stock Tremec units.

I have one on my Australian DD GTO (JHP GMM Ripshifter) which is a 6 speed (Tremec) - the way it works is rather simple. You are actively pushing against springs in the lateral direction, the default position is the neutral slot between 3-4. It thus becomes very easy to find gears, and the throws are adjustable with set screws. There is no slop and your shifting becomes second nature, I commute in stop and go Wash DC traffic, it is a necessity.

I miss my 2nd-3rd shift all the time on my Tremec, looks like I'm shopping for a Pro-5,, I'm guessing I have to drop the tranny, hole in the floor not big enough?

I don't know about the SPF but, my Lone Star is easy. Take all the bolts out and the boot ring and you should, be able to remove the shifter bolts.

I'm pretty sure you can install the kit from inside the car. Just find someone with small hands and don't drop any parts. There was another thread a while back about the shift from second to third. Be smooth and don't shift fast or jam it into third.

You a SCOF member? I wrote a procedure on there for SPF owners that don't want to drop the tranny. It's not too terribly difficult, but you will need the right tools.

Default shifter

I have the tko 500 with the stock shifter (Tall and bent forward). Will one of these work on my car? Can I still use my handle?
thanks,
tom
