Baji's Make-Up Breakfast 2/13/10

So what am I missing? Except for Steve's, we all have SIDE pipes - so how will backing in make (much of) a difference? Perhaps we need to either curtail our engine warm-up times when departing or find a new place for breakfast. Parking on the northwest side of the lot is not a good exchange due to drips from the pine tree and these spaces are more narrow. BTW, I understand and can sympathize with the other patrons who are offended by the smell.

Great turn out today and good to see everyone after all of the rain.

Let's just blame the "exhaust pipe" issue on Rich, since he parked his car right next to the front door of the restaurant.

Once the weather perked up last year, our regular hang out was Alice's anyway. Baji's seems to work OK in the wintertime. I'm open to going somewhere else for breakfast...just not farther North.

The trick is, we have members from as far north as S.F, and as far south as South San Jose and Santa Cruz. Only occasionally some from Fremont.

I took a look at Google Maps which has a great terrain view, and did this simple little (but not highly accurate to the mile) measurement:

1/2 Way between S.F. and South San Jose (slightly north of Mogan Hill) I roughly get Mountain View.

1/2 Way between S.F. and Scotts Valley is Palo Alto/Menlo Park

1/2 Way between S.F. and Fremont (basically, created an angle, otherwise we'd end up in the middle of the bay) is Redwood City.

Since me and Tim live in Sunnyvale, we're closer to these mid points, albeit, Alices is a hike but we're not complaining since the drive is superb.

Campbell is a hike for those in S.F. but fine with most South Bay residents.

So my thoughts: is there anyhthing ELSE in Mountain View? Mabye close to El Camino Real?

Palo Alto isn't bad along University but I suspect students being the vast majority, would have a fit with us gas guzzling polluters. But the old Town and Country Village might have something good there. Just don't know what.

I liked Bucks actually. Has great character.

Never been to Sonoma Chicken Coupe. An option.

I'm up for anything; maybe we just rotate to several different areas.

I'm flexible during the colder season, but when it warms up, there's nothing close to the exhilaration of driving up to Alice's for breakfast. We are quite fortunate to have such a great driving road right in our back yard. The freeway drives to breakfast are boring.

You definitely want to stay away from University in PA. Too much traffic and parking can be difficult.

Town & Country has tough parking too and the couple of a restaurants there aren't like Bajis, Alices or Bucks. More upscale.

Right off the Alpine Road (Ladera/Portola Valley) exit there's a Mike's Cafe, with ample parking right near the restaurant.

There's a Stack's in Menlo Park on Santa Cruz Avenue with great food, but limited parking on street, so parking would have to be in the parking lot behind the building.

In Belmont, right off El Camino, there's a place called Whispers Cafe & Crepery with ample parking right out in front and good food.

While I still love Baji's Loma Verde omelette, washed down with a double latte , a little variety is a good idea. When the weather warms up a tad, so we can eat outdoors, I'm all for an occasional visit to Alice's. Great drive. But for convenience [just off 280] *and* really good eats, I'd second Mike's in Portola Valley and Buck's in Woodside. Shall we do a poll fer the next breffess? Rich

I'm always up for a run to Alice's for breakfast. For a regular get together, anything farther North of Mt. View turns my $35 breakfast into a $50 breakfast.

A little bit different deal, but for lunch I spoke to the manager at Hooters in Campbell, and he was okay with coneing off the front portion of their parking lot for us whenever we want to meet up. The girls of course would be available for pictures, if we wanted. I will try to set something up a couple of months when the weather hopefully gets a little warmer and more predictable. How much interest is there in a lunch run like this?

As for breakfast, I think we really need to concentrate on places with good parking. That pretty much kills most downtown venues, unless we set something up with the managers. Alices is a great choice, but it is nice to have a quicker, closer alternative for those busy or nasty Saturdays. BTW, several years ago someone told me that a group of BACC members always met a Chicken Coup every Saturday. Is this true, or were they confused with the Rock House?
