Custom muffler shop
Can anyone recommend a custom muffler shop that could possibly modify or make headers if need be (hope they are reasonable), preferably in the south bay area. I have a FFR MKIII SBF. I have been having some real fitment problems with the ones FFR sells.
Thanks for any feedback,
Steve

Try calling Boyd at Sanderson Headers in SSF. Great workmanship.

I guess I should have asked one of the Sanderson guys this last weekend when I was at the Goodguys car show. My wife and I went to their booth and looked at their catalog, but I didn’t see anything about custom work, so we left.
Thanks again,
Steve

Boyd and his crew do wonderful custom exhaust work including really trick headers which they coat there as well. The custom labor work I think is done via a separate company but resides within the Sanderson factory.

Try Lupe in Redwood City. He does a lot of work for my shop, for Custom Alignment and the NorCal Shelby group. He has a hole in the wall shop but is a true craftsman.

Another vote for Lupe, a very nice guy who does really good work. Also a Friend of the NorCal SAAC club. Rich

I heard of Lupe also on a different car issue I was working on. Might have to consider him down the road.

I thought in case anyone was interested I was able to finally resolve my 4 into 4 Driver’s side header fitment problem. I did go up and talk to Lupe at Meinke mufflers in Redwood City. After showing him my problem with some pictures and letting him know it was ok to cut them or bend them or whatever he thought would be best, he said he could heat them up and bend them to the position I was looking for. Just to let you know how bad this header was, it was 1 ½ inches higher than my side pipe when the side pipe was in the body cutout position.
After Lupe bent the tubes to where I could actually bolt on the side pipe, I ended up cutting the lower flange off to decrease the length of the header so the side pipe would not stick out so far. I had purchased a replacement lower mild steel flange from BBK headers and did a setup with clamps and a little gas tack weld to keep it in place. I took it back to Lupe and he finished welding the flange in place. My headers are ceramic coated and heating them up did take the shine off them, but I was just glad to get over this hurdle of a really bad fit. The driver’s side still needs to be tweaked a little and had I been able to bring the car to him, I believe it would have been a really nice fit.
This was a really positive experience for a change. For some header or side pipe adjustments I would highly recommend talking to Lupe first to see what he can do. The shop is on a very busy street with at times limited parking, so call first if you decide to try him.
On using Sanderson Headers, I did call them first because this problem had been dragging on for over 3 months at this time and I was getting nowhere with Factory Five. I was ready to have custom headers made. I have had Sanderson Headers on several cars in the past. I will only say that between two phone calls (two days apart) with them, the price jumped an additional $300-$500. So with the price change I decided not to trailer my roadster all the way up there.

Sandersons phone support is Wildly variant , and their pricing does fluctuate, it is like surfing - you ride the wave and put up a fight ( on pricing ) and the product comes out awesome.
I just had them craft some custom headers for a 66 GT350 replicant that I am doing , between the power brakes, cable clutch and borgeson power steering update , Tri-ys were out of the question--
I am glad that I sent my car up there and there were some bumps in the transaction, but the product received was worth the huff.
