BACC End of Summer Run - 10/2/10
Date – Saturday October 2, 2010
Initial Meeting Place – Poplar Creek Grill (formerly San Mateo Muni. Golf Course) www.poplarcreekgolf.com/grill.html 1700 Coyote Point Drive
San Mateo
Fuel - Since we will be on back roads for the most part, fuel will be sparse. If you are low on gas prior to breakfast, rather than turning left toward Poplar Creek Grill, you may want to head west on the Peninsula Avenue overpass when getting off US 101, two blocks to Delaware Street where you will find a Chevron station on the southeast corner. If you can make it to Saratoga (about 50 miles from breakfast) there will a number of stations there.
Start time – No Host Breakfast/Weekend Brunch – arrive around 8 AM (they open at 7 AM). They serve eggs, omelet’s and items from the griddle. We will have several tables set aside for us. Unfortunately they do not do separate checks.
Prior to 9 AM, while having breakfast, you will be given the opportunity to order and pay for a sandwich or salad from a local deli. Unless you bring something for lunch, this will be your only chance to obtain luncheon fare. Bring some cash.
Depart Poplar Creek – 9:30 AM.
Drive to the Candy Store Club - www.candystoreclub.com - in downtown Burlingame. This is a private Car Club where owners of classic cars meet & enjoy viewing/talking about their (generally) Concours condition vehicles. Check out their website to get a sense of the cars – the “display” is constantly changing. Parking will be directly across the street in a reserved area.
Depart Candy Store – 11 AM for a leisurely drive up Burlingame Avenue, through San Mateo Park, Hillsborough, San Mateo Highlands, down Canada Road, up Woodside Road (CA 84), past Alice’s Restaurant along Skyline Blvd. (CA 35) and down to Saratoga.
Arrive Cooper–Garrod Winery - 12:30 - 1 PM - http://www.cgv.com/. Here we will enjoy wine tasting and a picnic area along with their stables, horse ring and possibly observe their wine crush. We should be done no later than 3 PM.
***Lunch*** – unlike years past, Cooper–Garrod Winery can only provide tables, wine and a shady area for a picnic lunch. As stated above, we have arranged for a deli in Burlingame (C J’s Deli) to take orders for sandwiches and salads prior to 9 AM at Poplar Creek Grill. Your selection will be prepared while we are at the Candy Store. You must pay for your meal at the time of ordering so bring cash – sandwiches and salads are about $10, very tasty and quite filling. They have a large selection to choose from.
Once prepared, CJ's will deliver everyone's lunch to the Candy Store and we will transport your picnic to the winery. Soft drinks, water and chips will be supplied at the winery. If you don’t want to purchase from the deli, you are welcome to pack your own picnic and still share in the drinks/chips. The Winery does not have any food service. If this does not work, you are welcome to stop for lunch at one of many places in Saratoga either in lieu of the Winery or afterwards. FWIW, lunchtime parking in Saratoga can be a challenge.
Feel free to e-mail Tom Blumberg with any questions BACobraClub@yahoo.com.
In order to get a head count, please send me an e-mail or make a post. As always, co-pilots are welcome and encouraged.

A leisurely drive up Burlingame Avenue? On a Saturday around 11:00 AM?
Tom, I know you know that Burlingame Avenue is not exactly an expressway.

Burlingame Ave.
The cars will have been resting for more than an hour and should be able to handle the slow traffic on The Avenue. I get lots of looks when I take that cruise by myself so I can only imagine the attraction of several dozen cars taking a leisurely drive. Did you know that the Hillsborough Concours' Tour d' Elegance started their drive last Saturday on The Avenue? The street is only four blocks long and the gendarmeries will be working with us. If the group is not comfortable with this portion, there are many other options.
Rodney - I hope you will be available to join us.

Me too.
BTW, with the signal lights and the usual traffic, the group may get split up, so maybe waiting somewhere West of El Camino for everyone to catch up might be in order?

Yeah, that was a little bit of the case with the Texas group but thankfully, there were only THREE to worry about so it was a bit easier. But Snakes to the Lakes, I can't tell you how many times I got left behind (I took rear position for the pictures so it was bound to happen.)

Sounds like a great time as usual, Tom, but I'll be at Golden Gate Park havin' a fine time at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, groovin' to the great tunage. Here's to better weather than last weekend's (for all of us). Rich

This is an early start for us east bay folks but I'll be swinging by Rockhouse Sat. to caravan with anyone else interested.
I plan on leaving the "Rock" at 7:30 which will get us to Coyote Point around 8:15 which should allow time to get breakfast and order lunch for the afternoon.
see ya ,
Mike

Car is grounded ( or should I say on jack stands) till I resolve the clutch issue. So Danette and I will be missing the event this year.

Scott - any chance you can bring a daily driver. It should be a fun event even if you don't have your Cobra. How about the Harley?

Wish I could gents, but all kinds of stuff going on right now. I haven't even been out on the two wheeled Cobra ( Harley).
Might have to take you up on your offer Mike!! I think besides some small alignment issues etc, there might be a binding issue with the throw out bearing. From the link you sent me and what Wilwood shows, you should have a slightly larger slave which I do. I am going to try and get things cleaned up and lube and see how it works. I borrowed this cool little SnapOn scope to look around inside there.

Tom,
Great turnout and event! The Poplar Creek Grill was a nice place to meet and have breakfast, and the 'candy store' had quite a variety of exceptional vintage cars. The route through town, by the reservoir then along skyline was a great way to get to the Cooper-Garrod winery and stables ... followed up by a picnic under the trees and wine tasting, I would say you certainly covered all the bases. Thanks for setting this up!
