Good experience at Redwood City...really??? I called them (after talking to Hayward - never go there!), and the guy in Redwood City said that they only do VIN verifications for those in San Mateo county. I went to San Jose, but that was years ago when they have a friendly officer who was a member of the NorCal Shelby Club.

Randy, that must have been Officer Rosconi that you had in San Jose. The officer that I dealt with made it sound like Rosconi was breaking the law for performing any verifications outside of Santa Clara County. It seems to be that it all comes down to the officer. Piccinini from Dublin is not even a car guy. He simply does his job and he does it well. It sounds like Rosconi was the same.

Well, I guess this process is just one of those things where you roll the dice and pray for a nice person. I got lucky I guess.

I filed a written complaint to Santa Clara via CHP's website. It was an interesting return phone call but the sargent that I spoke was very apologetic and very grateful for me taking the time to write the complaint. When he told me that they were there to service the public I had to cut him off telling him that they could have fooled me. Before I got off of the phone with him I told him that I felt that Officer Danielles had been lying to me about his sargent instructing him not to perform the verification and that it was a lie that he had fabricated. The sargent replied informing me that he was Officer Danielles' sargent and he knew nothing of my situation until the complaint was filed. I asked him how it felt to have one of his officers putting words into his mouth to which he replied that he would be dealing with that when we got off of the phone.

Well hopefully people can learn from this post and hopefully San Jose cleans up their act for the next guy. My thoughts, as long as Officer Piccinini is performing verifications, don't waist your time anywhere else. He has done a bunch of Cobras and he does not discriminate based on your county of residence.

There can always be bad experiences-- they do get some interesting cases in VIN verification. Maybe the officer in question is just having a bad day , and got to take it out on you. -- however that does not make it OK. You did the right thing in following up -- Rosconi was a great resource with the cars, he knew his stuff. - we have helped out younger law enforcement , who dont understand that cars existed before the 17 digit VINs.

as they were born after 17 digit VINS were required.

This all boils down to training issues, - I had an officer pull me over as the year listed on my car was 0000 and not 196x and he got all bent out of shape.

lack of training means lack of performance. -
