Default Calif SB100 as relates to car previously titled in another state

Hello all --

In doing my homework regarding SB100, it was represented to me by a cobra distributor of new vehicles that it was his understanding that if I bought a cobra previously registered and titled outside of California -- it must have at least 7,000 miles on it in order to be registered under SB100.

Can anyone confirm if this is accurate, or whether or not any similar form of minimum mileage requirement has been established when you attempt to register a previously titled "out-of-state" vehicle under SB100?

Thanks in advance --

I've never heard of that. Search on here for posts by "Morgester" there's a direct path to registration outlined for out of state registered vehicles.

I brought my car in with less than 6,000 miles on it and encountered no obstacles registering it or getting my SB100 exemption. The State is cash hungry, they'll probably let anything in just to get the fees.

However, do yourself a favor and call Sacramento; 916-657-7704, ask for Lisa or Carlene. This division is the defacto expert on SPCN and SB100 matters.

It's not SB-100 that has the 7000 mile issue. It is normal out-of-state registration that has restrictions. Quoting the DMV:

"NOTE:California law prohibits California residents or businesses from importing and/or registering a new vehicle with less than 7,500 miles at the time of purchase unless it meets or is exempt from California emission standards. If you acquire a 49-State vehicle (manufactured for all states except California) from another state or country, you may not be able to register your vehicle in California."

Quoted from - How To Register A Vehicle from Out-of-State (Nonresident Vehicle)

One might argue that SB-100 makes a car exempt from emissions standards and that may be why Bingo had no issues. But I wouldn't be 100% sure of that. It may be that he got lucky at his DMV.

Follow Bingo's advise and call Sacramento.
