Default Shelby Tribute 5/26 11:00 - 2:00ish

"Calling All Shelbys"
Pass this around!

The date is set May 26th at 750 Ridder Park Drive The San Jose Mercury News campus. The time will be determined, but I feel 11:00 to 1:00 works
Bruce Canapa will be there as one of our speakers, we contacted Reggie Jackson, Jay Leno & Steve Davis, Don Lee and couple others, let me know.

We will have a moment of silence and a moment of noise, "Start your Engines" all at one time for 45 seconds
A photo will be taken by a crane to send to Carrol Shelby C. & family with the largest Shelby display to honor Carrol Shelby.

No money to be made on this event, No vendors, No marketing, No passing of fliers, No exception please do not ask. There is no registration.

Please respect the celebrities at this event

All Shelby's, Shelby recreations, Sunbeam Tigers, Shelby Dodge, anything Shelby powered with a Shelby name on it are welcome.

The Shelby's will be allowed to park on the lawn but we have BE CAREFUL of the grass. These grounds are beautiful, I gave my word we will be genital.

We may have Carrol Shelby Chili as a snack to toast!

I can use some club help in parking and set up.

Any ideas or comment to help, please let me know. I am Mike Hennessy the organizer of this event.

Please pass this around.

Rich,

Sounds like a great tribute! I'm planning on being there. Maybe a moderator can combine the two threads to reduce confusion.

I have a few cars from the River City Shelby club going down, should we set up a caravan for the Sacramento people?

Here is the details.

A Tribute to Carroll Shelby

CALLING ALL SHELBYS

When: Saturday, May 26
Time: 10am - noon
Where: The Mercury News
Campus
750 Ridder Park Drive
San Jose, 95190 (see map)

We are inviting all Shelbys of all kinds: Cobras, GT40s, Shelby Mustangs, Shelby recreations, Shelby designed cars, & Shelby powered vehicles to participate in this tribute to honor Carroll Shelby.

All cars will be lined up on the beautiful, park-like setting front lawn area of The Mercury News campus for the largest gathering of Shelbys in the Bay Area for a picture taken from a crane by photographers Richard Sieve and Dennis Mattish. The picture will be taken around 10am. We will have special guest speakers that knew Carroll Shelby and knew about his cars and his legacy.

About The Ceremony
10am: The National Anthem
Guest speakers (total time 30 minutes)
A moment of silence in honor of Carroll Shelby
A moment of noise "Start Your Engines". All cars start up in unison for 45 seconds in honor of Carroll Shelby
Picture will be taken
All Shelby guests will sign one large card
The picture will be printed and framed and sent along with a large card signed by all participants to the Shelby Company & family in appreciation and respect for the work Carroll Shelby has done.

There is no cost to participate in or to view this once in a lifetime public ceremony.

Just a Few Simple Rules
Please respect any celebrities present at this event.
No vendors, no marketing, no passing of fliers, no exceptions. Please do not ask.
A simple RSVP by email would be appreciated and helpful to plan set up.
Club group Presidents should contact Mike Hennessy.
PLEASE RESPECT THE GROUNDS: ALL SHELBY CARS MUST BE ESCORTED INTO PLACE ON THE LAWN by the event staff. This will start at 9am. Cars must be escorted off of the lawns, too.
No alcohol or stereos playing.
Picture taking time will be announced at the Ceremony to alert drivers to stand by their Shelby.
All spectators in attendance are welcome to join in and gather around behind the cars to be included in the picture.
Some Final Notes

Omega Printing has
offered to do a poster print for those interested. (Pricing should be under $15.00 each) A portion of the proceeds will go directly to the Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation.

Note:
This event could not be made possible without the help and support of Rick Schiller and The Mercury News. The cost of putting this together is supported by some of us local car enthusiasts such as Joe Testa & Mike Hennessy. These costs are for restrooms, crane, sound, & anthem. All of the parking assistants, photographers, and guest speakers have all volunteered their time. Newspapers all over the Bay Area and radio stations have donated these ads. We thank all car participants for your support in this tribute to Carroll Shelby. We want to thank you all for participating.

Event organizer: Mike Hennessy
email: coolcars55@sbcglobal.

PLEASE FORWARD TO FRIENDS

I want to make this event even if my car is not complete. I still have body work to do but want to bring it anyways. If that is ok.

Thanks,
Kevin

Me, and Dave Albertali and another person (building a 33' FFR) are planning to be out at Brokaw and Old Oakland Road at the Starbucks or McDonalds (should only take us about 25 minutes to get there.) Planning at around 8:00AM to give us plenty of time since it's only 2 blocks away from Ridder Park.

An alternate could be to meet up at FLAMES across from Santana Row (Winchester, on the Century Theater side) early like 7:30 and have breakfast, THEN travel up to Ridder Park (again, should only take about 15 minutes once we're on 880).

Anybody want to try that instead????

And maybe a little later. The event doesn't kick-off until 11:00 am. The only downside is parking and/or if the restaurant gets too busy.
