Oh, and don't forget he also owns GT40 p1075, the two time Le mans winning Gulf car.

Rod Walton is listed in the program with the 250 GT and I thougth I heard it from the announcer for Group 4A. Anyone check the registry for CSX 2286?

Loosing your brakes makes sense - since he was running hard and in third place ... time to upgrade the technology a bit? Even with a pro team and $$$, stuff happens in racing. Shows character to crash a Daytona and then jump into a Ferrai 250 GT.

Two weeks ago at the Mini Nats, Allen Grant in 96 lost his right front spinner and the wheel came off on the track! No safety wire! He had safety wires on his car this weekend.

It was a shame to see the Daytona Coupe wreck, but I am sure it's not the first time. I am grateful that these people bring out the old cars and run them hard. Glad he was ok and I am sure we will see it again next year.

Randy - Am I reading this right? Walton has both CSX2286 AND a 250GT?

I'm jealous...

Walton has a massive race car collection here in Scottsdale - like 50 cars all of which make that Daytona look relatively cheap.... lots of 935s ,962s, Ferarris, and more

Igo Oh, and don't forget he also owns GT40 p1075, the two time Le mans winning Gulf car.

He also has P1076 which he races , it's the 3rd place car in 69 as Gurney told him if he wrecked 1075 he would be the first...

The guy makes $4 billion a year and is a car guy - what would you do?

His collection is worth about half a billion - better than stupid stocks...

It was turn 5. I was sitting on the fence and he definitely lost his brakes as he went straight into gravel pit and barely slowed before hitting tire barrier. if you noticed, Peter Brock was standing there taking pictures as he hit the barrier. He had to take some great pictures! Afterwords, peter went over to make sure he was ok and took some more pictures. I dont think Walton liked that too much!! will try to post pictures.

Rob Walton is one of the best drivers in vintage racing. He was running third at the time he went off. His crash at T5 was through no fault of his own. Left front brake locked on entry and stayed locked all the way to impact. He was just a passenger. Badger

The comments on his driving chops are right on. His performance in the first heat on Saturday in the Ferrari 250 LM was electrifying. Turn five is a bad place to lose your brakes; the only worse place in a really fast car is the entrance to the corkscrew.

Having watched Walton more than a few times, his driving can't be doubted. It happens.

Badger...you looked like you were having fun this year.

Now that's funny!

On a serious note, no one was hurt and Walton deserves kudos for racing a piece of automotive history. If I had that kind of car budget I would do the same, the car belongs on the track. It was built once, raced, crashed, and can certainly be rebuilt again!

It was interesting that when they hauled it back to the pits, it already had a tarp covering the damage while on the flat-tow truck. In the pits, it had a car cover hiding the damage...but very evident!
