Default DMV Registration

I have a little problem with registration that I would appreciate some help with. I finished the BAR process last year (at Evergreen) and this year received my first renewal notice with the very unpleasant STOP sign and then “SMOG Certification Required “.
Before I send in my check, registration and Statement of Facts form (Reg 256) to try and clear this up. I was hoping someone could let me know if they have the following printed on their Registration Card?
For,
MAKE : SPCNS
YR MODEL : Mine is blank. I thought this was supposed to be “0000”
YR 1ST SOLD : 2007 or whatever year purchased

In the Vehicle Registration Renewal Notice, I have
VIN : My VIN #
MAKE : SPCNS
YR : 2007
BODY TYPE : RD
LICENSE PLATE : My license #

I'm trying to narrow down if the problem is "Yr Model" being blank or "Yr" being 2007.

Thanks for any feedback,
Steve

Steve,

The year first sold is correct and the year model should be 00/00/0000. It sounds like some sort of foul up with the DMV's records (like your BAR exemption is not in the system or not tied to your registration).

Your best bet may be to visit a DMV office and explain the situation. I'm guessing that they may refer you back to the BAR station to verify your SB100 and make sure it's in the system.

A hassle for sure, but I wouldn't rely on the 256 form to clear it up.

Agree 110% with Doug -hit DMV be sure to be calm cool and collected, and reiterate that your car is an SB100 car. -

I have an appointment at the Thousand Oaks DMV this Friday (11/1/13) to get my Certificate of Sequence. I have an out of state previously titled Cobra. From there I go to the BAR Inspection station. I can compare results or ask a question if that would help. How much will the registration cost? I bought the Cobra for $55k, 3.5 years ago.

I'd count on 10% of the purchase price, +/- depending on your local tax rates.

If you have the Smog Check Work Order (which the inspector gives you a copy before and a copy after the inspection) and
the Smog Check Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) which the inspector gives to you after the inspection that's all you need to correct this problem.

Thank you all for the feedback and the suggestions. I’m sure it’s just a data entry error and shouldn’t be that hard to straighten out once I talk to the right person.

I did have an appointment at DMV last week for this issue, but Santa Clara had some type of computer system failure when we got there and they weren’t sure when it would come back on line.
We decided to try Los Gatos DMV and that’s where we were told to fill out the Statement of Facts form and send it in. While the Los Gatos system was up and running, the person that gave us the Statement of Facts form, said it was because our renewal notice was greater than 30 days out.

I do have the BAR VIR copy, a Referee Web Application copy and an invoice sheet that I think must be the work order you are talking about.

Steve - form a LLC in Montana and your problems will be solved. Eventually CA will require smog on everything including golf karts.
