Question Which Transmission?

I was looking at the specs for the Richmond 5-sp and the Tremec TKO. The Richmond unit seems to have better gear ratios for racing, while the Tremec seems better suited for the street.

Here are the gear ratios:

Richmond Tremec
3.28 3.27
2.13 1.98
1.57 1.34
1.24 1.00
1.00 0.68

Would like to hear from anyone with expierence using the Richmond. Would this be better for roadrace with the close ratios?

Wink

You have a monster big block. That means you should use a wide ratio tranny to make use of all that torque. A close ratio box is for small blocks that have peaky power output. Also the tremec has a nice overdrive 5th gear to allow for realaxed hiway cruising.

Default transmission

I recently went thru the same drill.
Richmond looks good on paper; but several people/manufactures;Hunter, Unique and EM were not thrilled with their Rickmond experience. Several comments about hard and slow shifting. If your goal was a 5 spd(mine was; cause I wanted a freeway cruise gear) then most like the TKO for big power. 5th in only a cruise gear; mine will go 150 mph in 4 th.
If racing and a low rear end is in play you can go with the TKO ll with the .82 5th. Top loader are strong but you end up turing 3000 rpm going down the hiway, bad on engine, ears and MPG.

MY opinion;

Thanks everyone. I'm going with the TKO
