Default California SB 708 Smog Testing 45yrs

SEMA Link, looks like they are after cars as far back as 1958.

Anyone know what this would do to SB 100/1578?

Thumbs down

Turk, Jammo, Bony & anyone else,

When you have a chance go to www.sen.ca.gov and then click on the legislative link. That takes you to a page where you can pull up SB-708. Please read it and see if you come to the same conclusions that I have. This bill looks as if it could be a disaster for anyone not in politics or buying a new vehicle every year or so. I really hope that I have interpeted it's effect on SB-100 wrong.

Default Car Rally

How about a Hotrod, Muscle Car, Cobra Rally. Very orderly circling the State Capitol, of course a few calls to get the news media going, and an articulate spokesperson for the group to explain the situation?

Gary,

Sounds good. I have written so many letters and made so many phone calls over the years that they now ignore me or just send the rubber stamped replies. I no longer know personally any of Emperor Davis's bunch but this Flores has always been an a-- ki---- and a car hater. Take away their limozenes and all their perks and make them drive regular cars and there would be some major panic. We are going to need help as Davis has now reaped the benifits of SB-100 and got relelected so now they want to get rid of it. Calif. would prefer to have no car over 5 years old on the road period. Thank God I am getting old and don't have much longer to have to put up with this collection of liars, crooks, and idiots that call themselves the state Govt.

They had the "Million Men March".....They had the "Million Women March"....recently they attempted "Million Modem March"....,

It may be time for the "MILLION CYLINDER MARCH"!!
Let's see 1,000,000 divided by 8...that is 125,000 cars. Nope that won't work.

Let's try for MILLION VALVE MARCH.

What a bunch of weenies.
There is absolutely no question in my mind this state is not only business hostile, but they just hate cars here at the government level also.

They love the Federal Highway Fund, They love the taxes collected on Sales, Plates, Registrations, toll booths, and gasoline...
But they just plum hate automobiles.

E-Mail returned,

I just got through sending E-Mails to some of our so called state beurocrats. One who is supposed to represent the Northern area won't even post an E-Mail address and the other has one but the E-Mail was returned as that address is no good. And this was sent right from his web-site. I did get the computer generated answer from Gray Davis's site but that one will never get past the first person who reads it. Has anyone else tried sending E-Mails to these people ? This bill is to be voted on the 25th of this month and we need to get it stopped if possible. Some of you people in Southern Calif. that know your representatives get in contact with them as that is the part of the state that controls Sacramento.

Default Another Kalifornia Moment....

I was born and raised there, but I gotta tell ya, this thing is just one more reason I got the *&^( out of there and moved back to my adopted state, Texas.

Well, the folks in the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia are just reaping the benefits of the Democratic party's sweep of '02....
What's the old saying....."we get the government we deserve?" Stop electing these people if you want to see the assault on personal freedoms slowed down a bit.

My sympathies to all my Kalifornia brethren. I just hope the trend doesn't spread eastward, as it usually does.........

Yours in Shiner Bock..

Bud

I am 8th and my wife 10th generation Californians and this chit is not from our people. My take is the bleeding heart left coasters came here in droves after WWII, bent on changing the place into their private elitist paradise, all they have none is phxxk the place up IMHO.

Bud Man,

The people of Northern Calif. have overwhelmingly voted against Davis from day one. But we make up a very small part of the state and the Los Angles and Southern Calif. areas dictate state policy. Davis won't even bother to come up here when he is on campaign because there aren't enough votes to matter. And yes, whatever he and his flunky Flores gets pushed through is going to bleed off into other states. Make no mistake about it, other Governors are pals with this fool and are watching closely to see what he can get by with and then they will try it. Just look at how many states sudenly made it easier to register Special Construction Vehicles after Davis signed SB-100. They didn't know ??? that Sb-708 was already waiting for the right time to do away with SB-100 and all other exemptions. That was a panic thing to get him re-elected as he needed the car people's vote this time due to his Emron scandal. Now he is looking to go to Washington and spread his sh-- it there. Car people in other states just remember this. If we go doewn and aren't allowed to have the Cobras and such then you aren't going to be far behind. I have written, e-mailed, and called every person I can get hold of and most of them just won't even talk or answer an e-mail. To them it is a done deal and to hell with what the people want.

Ron:

You are right on. Funny, Like many, I am old enough to remember when Reagan was governor and the state was actually conservative. Those days are long gone. I also sympathize with you folks in the true "Northern California". Between the Bay Area and LA, its just hard to find enough level headed people with common sense to balance out the "fringe element". The whole U.S. is the same....a whole lot of good people had to mobilize every single vote to keep out that element......witness what happened in the 2000 presidential contest.

And you are also right about it spreading. When we first moved out here in 1996, a neighbor (and native Texican) asked me how I liked the state so far. I replied very much...but that I was already sensing a very California-like "elitist" attitude in some of the local government...especially the larger cities. Some real strange looks. Well, two days ago, a smoking ban went into effect in Dallas, and it will undoubtedly proliferate from there.

Time will tell. As a good friend of mind sez..."Sometimes it's just time to push the reset button" Maybe like they did in '76?.....that's 1776....

Bud Man,

Boy are you ever correct. I voted for Regan when he ran for Governor here and I thought he was the best thing that has happened to this state and country for a long time. Davis is an idiot and his favorite flunky Flores will do anything to get money and votes. I wish we could draw a line across Calilf. North of the Sacramento city limits and make a state without all those fools. Of course then a bunch of them would move up here.

New York is just getting their version of our SB-100 started and they will be watching to see if Davis and Flores can do away with our right to own any car except what the state mandates. I am still trying to get an answer to some e-mails about SB-708. Maybe I am approaching them wrong as I figured they could read or would have soem aide that could.

Know why Regan was so great? He was not a Fxxxing Lawyer. He was a man of the outdoors who shot first and asked questions latter. I bet 99% of the politicos in this Country are lawyers. North Santa Barbara County is trying to split off and get away from the liberals in the South. We have a Supervisor that would not allow the Flag/Pledge the day after 9-11, a public meeting. Had a recall election and the liberals voted to keep her in office, go figure.

Ron,

I use to have 10 acres in Butte County just 70 miles North of Sacramento, it was a great place.

Barbara Ortiz
State Capitol
Room # 5114
Sacramento, Ca 95814
Ph. #: 916/445-7807

Hand written letters carry the most weight so take a few minutes and send one out. Contact all you know with an interest in classic cars, reproductions or what have you and get them to write a letter as well.
As a side note, I just got back from the referee and I finally got my Cobra, which I bought in July of 2001 registered and smogged. If you think for one minute that it won't happen to you you are sadly mistaken. You just can't believe what they can legislate to control what you d, then run you thru the wringer.
Don't wait... do it now!!!
