Police Track Shennanigans
Greetings
As many of you already know, we can rent the police training track in Dublin that they use as part of the academy to teach pursuit driving. It is pretty big, essentially a giant piece of new pavement that is approximately 1/4 X 3/8 of a mile. They have a zillion cones we can use and a skidpad we can flood if we want to. The cost when compared to renting a road track is really low. They provide the insurance policy as well, so we can go and play secure in the knowledge that no one can use the "Lawsuit Lottery" against us.
We can do an autocross, drag racing or skills school (or all three, for that matter) at a venue that is less than 10 minutes from the Athens. To rent this baby for 8 hours is only $500-, very reasonable compared to the $6000- to $15000- it costs to rent the other tracks. It doesn't hurt that we might meet the local Deputies as well and maybe find a way to do a little local community service to their toy drives or other events, especially if you like to go fast on Santa Rita Road or wherever.....
All I am looking for right now is the level of interest in the group. Please do not reply to this email from the hinterland telling us how cool this is, we already know.... If you want to know how to do this in your community, send me an email.....
So, a show of hands? I think we could do at least 25 cars and maybe more... it will be cheaper than the gas bill....
here is the url - they have some nifty videos:

Steve,
Could you give me an approximate mileage from Redding up North to Dublin ? I have been there but it was years ago and for the life of me I can't remember how long it took to drive down there. Also I know they have changed some of the highways since my last trip. But there may be a couple of us up here that would be interested in doing this if the rain ever stops.
thanks,
Ron

Could be a fun thing for you, any excuse to drive the cars is a good one..

Sure I'm in,
If I break it at least I'm close to home. Would this possibly be on a Sat. after our breakfast?

Police etc
Yes, let's do it on a Saturday , sometime after the Tour de Vin. Maybe early in July? Or the first weekend in June if everybody likes the idea? Or after the Spring fling? That way everyone will at least have a running car for Ohio....

Steve,
Thanks for the information and map. The highways have changed considerable since I was last down there but I think that if traffic isn't really bad I could do it in about 4 hours. Saturday in June or July would be good as I need to get someone to take care of my two little dogs. I will talk to a couple of the othert guys here and see if they would be interested in a day of fun.

Steve, let me know if you are interested in having an autox club put on the event. They can design the course, run timing and scoring etc. and keep the entries limited to the private list.

Can I watch if I can't drive?
To all - Mary and Dave have experience with the location and set-up.

Ok, I get the picture,... it looks like there will be 20 of us or so. I will see if we can get this going in late June , early August....
