I just picked up on this web site. They have some great rides listed. I've diven many of them. Any road suitable for a cycle, is suitable for a cobra.

In the Redding area, you might try the drive up to Burney or over to Willow Creek and up to Hoopa and then Happy Camp Lots of twisties. Heck just I-5 along Shasta Lake is a kick. Or, go down to Williams and head for Ukiah via Hwy 20. Pretty drive along Clear Lake and lots of curvey road.

30 years ago, I used to live in Burney. Anybody who lives in Redding and can't find a crooked road, hasn't left his driveway Am I right Lew?

You are right. You left out one great drive and that is over the mountains through Weaverville toward the coast. The road follows the old stage coach road and it twists and turns back on itself until you can drive 50 miles to actually go 20 miles. Great scenery along the river and gold dredges everywhere. Also in the Feather River canyon toward Quincy and Portola and the Lake Almanor area. I use the roads over to Shasta Dam to set my suspension up on as I live 7 miles from the dam. There is also a great flat area where you can see for miles and no traffic on an old highway that only ranchers use and it is a geat place to run hard and not have to fear traffic as there won't be more than one or two pickups an hour on that road.

128 Winters to Napa is wonderful in the fall through spring. In the summer there are just too damn many boaters!

Highway 70 through the Feather River Canyon is a wonderful road also. Beautiful scenery and must have been designed with a Cobra driver in mind. Great loop is Chico to Lake Almanor on Highway 32, 89 south with lunch at Carol’s Café at Prattsville Resort then to 70 and west back to the valley.

Boy are you correct about that. We go up to the Weaverville car show nearly every year just for the fun of driving the roads in that area. I haven't even been over all of them yet as there are so many going off in all directions. I also like Lassen Park but there is usually a lot of traffic in the park itself so that sort of does away with some of the fun if you wnat to drive a little hard. Also some nice drives up around Mt. Shasta.

Hi Davey. Haven't heard from you lately. How's the SPF running? I have over 7,500miles with 500 track miles since I picked mine up in Oct. The cars down this week. I'm swapping out the tranny and the ring & pinion. Going with a Tremec II with the ‘road race’ gear set, and a 3.08 rear end. Any way! We’ll have to get together and do a cruise sometime this summer.

I and my friends can CONFIRM less than 10. "Rumor" has it there are more. But let me tell you, Snake Hunting around here is HARD to do!

We are were lined up for a cruise today with THREE of us. Can you imagine! Thats HUGE!!! LOL

Anyway, the guy with the SPF tried to change a tire last might and broke one of the ears off the spinner. So it's down to two of us for now! I'm TRYING to get the Cobra folks to "come together"!

You're right about Weaverville to the coast. It's a really fun drive...if you don't have to do it and just want to do it.

The Feather River Canyon is a pretty drive too.

A bit far north for the Redding crowd, but 199 from Grants Pass down to Crescent City through the Smith River Canyon is a good one too. On the other side of the mountain is the Gasquet- Orleans road out of Happy Camp a.k.a. the "GO ROAD".

Interesting history on that road. Construction was halted due to the road passing right through tribal burial grounds. As far as I know, it still dead ends up there.

You are right about the 199 from Grants Pass to Crescent City. I have been that route but not in the Cobra. Went with a friend to the Crescent City car show a few years ago and he took that route. Man, there are a lot of really beautiful and scenic roads in Northern Calif. and Oregon. Can you pump your own gas in Oregon ? I heard some person say they thought you couldn't. Here you have to do it as no station will do it anymore.

The attendants pump the gas for you in Oregon, just like the old days. Never had any explanation why, can anyone know why?

There was a post some time ago about some state, Ohio I think but am not sure, had an election to try and pass a bill so they could pump their own gas and it failed. I believe if I remember correctly that they said there were two states left where it is against the law for a person to pump their own gas. I wonder if Oregon is one of them.

Edit # 1 Rick I just called a friend of mine whose parents live in Oregon and she told me they can't pump their own gas up there. She said once she forgot and started to do it and the attendants got really mad at her and told her to stay away from the pump, that was their job. So I guess Oregon is the other state that has that law.

I recently returned from an Ohio visit, had to pump my own gas. The road to the "coast" near Cottage Grove Oregon was always a favorite of mine. But a little crowded for my liking these days.

Lumber men? Heck, thats why I left Orgeon. Everyone I knew had a missing finger or two, bad back, or injury of some kind. I set chockers ONE summer and thought, "I gotta get outta here", LOL. Sold the "corks" and hit the road!

Hwy 96, (I-5 to Hwy 299) Good road to wear out tires !!
I spend every summer up there,19 miles east of Happy Camp, place called Seiad Valley.
Anyone traveling through that area this summer, e-mail me and I'll give you my local phone No. there. Let me know a few days inadvance, cause I may be dredging or fishing !!

Your right, Hwy 199 is absoutly beautiful, so many sites along the Smith Riv. Canyon and Jed Smith State Park. Traveled it many times !!

According to Oregon state law, you must be schooled by a state authorized instatution of higher learning to beable to pump gas !
Yea, they get all over you if you try to pump your own gas, I guess their job is being threatened !!

Another short drive but also very beautiful is from Grants Pass south on hwy. 238, about 35 miles to Jacksonville and Medford.
We use to live just off 238, along the Applegate river.

When you come up next time stop by here and meet some of us. Do you come up I-5 or take another route ?

I see that Ernie corrected my guess that Ohio was the other state that won't allow you to pump gas. I know it was back East but just don't remember which one. Some of the Cobra guy's weren't happy about the attendants dripping gas on the fender. I believe one of the answers to the problem was they had the stare of death down to an art.

We would like to get some Cobras together for a day of driving and a dinner or picnic lunch type family thing one of these days up here if it ever quits raining. It has poured the last two days and is supposed to be in the 70s Monday and Tuesday with more HEAVY rain Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. My yards look like small lakes now.
