What came first? The cobra or the wife?
Just curious whether most of you currently married guys got your cobras before getting married or after. I would venture to guess that most will reply that the wife came along first.
In my case, I actually ordered my car before being engaged and will hopefully have it finished BEFORE I get married next October. RIGHT MIKE??????
I must admit, my fiance`has been pretty patient thus far with all of my "cobra fanfare". It really is nice to have the support of a significant other while finally getting your dream car!
As a side story, I can remember meeting a customer while working at my uncle's restaurant many years ago who claimed he owned an original cobra until he got divorced and was then forced to sell it. Anyone else heard of similar horror stories??

My wife came first. I had my priorities in order.
Find the right mate first. It isn't easy to look beyond the romance to see what the real person is like.
Most women think they can change you after you are married.

I'll venture to guess that in the majority of cases, the wife came first. This is a very expensive hobby and most people cannot afford owning these cars until they're at least in their 40's. This is definitely true in my case and I'm still trying to save enough to afford one of these cars. But then who am I to know? One could argue that wives are expensive as well!

My wife came first.
On the 'they can change you issue', the old saying "A man marries a women expecting her to never change. A woman marries a man expecting him to change"
On the expense issue. In my case, at least the wife makes money! Now lets talk about the children! 2 children = new Ford GT or a full tilt CSX. When they misbehave, I tell them I am going to trade them in!

The Cobra got me my wife.
Kind of, it was one of the first things I did with her with out our group of friends along. After our ball game I took her for a ride and the next week she got to drive it.

Been married to same wife 28 years. She's the one who pushed me to buy a Cobra. Back in 1984, I came home after graduating from Motorcycle Safety Foundation class I opened the garage door to find a brand new Honda Interceptor she bought for me. Yup, I married the right girl. She's still a knock out, a gourmet cook and supports my addiction to cool cars and makes a lot more money than I do.

Which wife are you talking about????
The one before the Cobra or the one after????
______
The above statement constitutes a pile of false bravado considering the fact that my wife is an original model of 36 years but garage kept, so to speak, and low mileage.. and looks showroom new.
I find that these little updates get me out of trouble in the event that she reads these postings... I haven't been married for 36 years to the same woman because I'm stupid....
Coming Dear!!!!!

My first Cobra I acquired between wives, and still had it when I remarried.
The second one I built with the blessing of wife No 2. Who is a keeper.

What was gone first, the Cobra or the wife.
The flip side.

A Cobra has been my dream car since a friend bought an original in 1963. His story ends with a wife (now ex-wife) that made him sell it in 1968. Traded it actually for a VW....and owed some on the deal!
My story is a little different.
Love the cars, have pictures, posters, key chains, coffee mugs, belt buckle, in short every thing I could have -short of a car.
Bought a raffle ticket and won..don't hate me... a beautiful 289 powered fia.
Truthfully the actual car, engine and color I had on my wish list.
Now the story. My wife knew of my obsession but figured she was safe until my winning. She asked me to sell it or take the money to remodel the kitchen.
NO was the answer and still is.
We eat out a lot.

My wife came first. To her, cars are basically utilities. She is legally blind and can not drive. She never showed any interest in cars until she saw a Cobra at the Woodward Dream Cruise. It was love at first sight. She spent several years lobbying our getting a Cobra. She figured out how we could pay for it. She and I both love the car. She even sent me to racing school so that I would be able to drive it properly. She now is a fan of Dave Despain on Speed Channel.
As much as one may love their Cobra, their spouse should be first priority. If the spouse is supportive, everything is possible.

My wife is extemely fit and attractive, has what most would consider a High power job. All good right? Although I have always been into cars when I met my wife I did not have a Shelby, Lived in NY were I did not think the weather was condusive to the hobby. As soon as I moved to CA, I traded in my two year old Explorer on a 67 Mustang Convertible GT-350 replica. My wife cried! It was always a argument, Someone offered to buy it at Pomona, Sold it to her amazement for more money than I paid for it. Heart broken, turned arround and bought a 67 Shelby GT-500, lots of time in garage restoring it, more fights, this time sold it for a Big Profit. Two days later ordered CSX. Less fighting now, but she is not what you consider the best person to take to a car show or race. Oh well, we can't all be as lucky as Speed Demon.

Well-l-l-ll--l
..hope it never comes to it, BUTT, if'n she tries to make me sell the Cobra--THEN I'll know! Gott'er pretty much broken in, re wild and crazy things----first dose was Watkins Glen GPs (tenting in that wild infield!) and that was followed by a delivery back from Bermuda through just plain stupifyin' weather. She's done 3 others---650+ miles with invariable line-squalls, co-freekin'-lossal waves, etc.

The wife came first, but she knew I was snake-bitten from birth, and realized what she was in for. In fact, she was so cool about it that she surprised me with an awesome 427 S/C Cobra ice-scultpture at our reception!
However, during my best man's speech he said "Cobra before Kids"....and that's the way it turned out. I realized a long time ago that on my salary, if one has kids prior to purchasing a Cobra, then you usually have to wait 18 years before getting one. No thanks. I want to enjoy this car while I'm in my prime!

The wife came first. But she new of my car obsession going into it.
She let me get the Cobra because I wouldn't stop talking about it, so she told me to get it and shut up.
Which would go first?? Hmmm....I could always use the Cobra to find another wife. The wife wouldn't allow another Cobra... You know I'm only writing this because she isn't here at the moment.

It's OK Steve, I'll send this to Kara offline so she can truly appreciate it. Especially in her "present state"............

In my case, the wife came first, then far too many Mustangs, a few Shelbys, the occasional TR6, GTO convertible, and finally the first Cobra........All with her blessing.................Now, the hot rod (slightly warmed over ) 1982 Mustang GT sitting in my backyard, that is a whole other story..................
