Unhappy Oh no!

After reading Steve's and Randy R's posts about Lew's condition, I want to change my earlier response to: "We're praying for you and your family Lew!" I will be looking for the model car Lew's brother suggests!

You guys are probably fed up with my saying this, but I am on a crusade with the thought of making our cars safer to drive on a track. So this is both a prayer for Lew as well as one for all of us in the future.

Ladies and Gentlemen, please make sure that your safety equipment, both on your car and on yourself, is capable of handling a roll over: These include a roll cage that is more extensive than the single roll bar that is "classic" with the Cobra, as well as arm and neck restraints.

I know, enough said!

All the best and Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

Default Lew the Taxman

Lew and Family;

I am so sorry to hear about your accident. Lew I pray for your full recovery, and soon. God bless your family during these difficult times. I will offer up a special prayer at our dinner this afternoon for you.

Your misfortune just encouraged me to buy the arm and neck restraints tomorrow. I know that's not enough but untill I can figure out a removable and functional cage it will have to do.

Best wishes and prayers for all the Comerford family,

Clois Harlan

Lew and Family,

Your Cobra family is thinking of you and wishing you recover from your injuries. I broke my back and was in a body cast for 4 months, but it took about 2 years to get back to a normal life again, so I know your long road ahead. At times like these you really know your immediate family is all that matters. With their help you can look forward to enjoying the things you like doing again, there is a light at the end of all this.
Regards,
Perry.

Here is the car....

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showt...hreadid=136119

I can see that Lew was quite lucky overall - I have sent him a gift from the BACC gang and once again leave the offer of any help that he might need to aid him in his recovery... We are planning to go and see him on the 13th after breakfast to any who may wish to join in, go to the Athens and come along.

Steve

FWIW, there is a similar looking (i.e. wrecked) SPF at House of Cobras. And in both instances, the factory hoop stood strong and protected the driver. Makes me feel more comfortable buying the SPF and knowing that I am protected (somewhat, at least) in a roll-over situation.

Lew, I wish you a speedy recovery!

I wish Lew a speedy recovery. Those photos indicate the severity of the crash. Makes me glad I have the dual roll bars.

The bent stearing wheel gives me goose bumps. Lew and his family are in my prayers.

Best wishes!

Unhappy

I've been checking this thread often looking for updates. Seems that Janet Curran is in touch with Frank (Lew's brother) and receiving updates from him and posting them here:

http://opentrackracing.com/forum/sho...&threadid=1133

------------------
From 12/1/03:
Latest update from Frank

<<surgery on his collar bones and left arm on Wednesday. He is getting more responsive every day. He is getting pain
killers dripped in on a routine basis.>>

From 12/2/03:
Lew had some trouble with fluid in his lungs yesterday (Monday), but doctors don't think that this will cause a delay on his surgery currently scheduled for Wednesday.
------------------

I don't have any other information, nor do I know what this surgery is about (arm, hand, neck, back, ear, collar?)...

There's been some discussion about visiting him on Sat, Dec. 13th. Unfortunately, I can't make it due to my son's Birthday.

Last, those photos are scarey, really scarey. Hmm.... Makes one think twice about taking a Cobra on the track...

Regards,
Randy R...

Just saw this thread over on FFCobra.

I just wanted to give Lew and his family my best. I pray that he has a speedy recovery.

Time to think about that full cage again.

Keep us posted.

Those pictures alone should do more to promote safety than all of the posts that have been put out. I know of one person that I have tried to get to go to the high performance driving school and said he never needed to but is now re-thinking that after I showed him the pictures. I wish Lew a speedy recovery. Bottom line is that in an open roadster there is really no way to be as safe as in a car with a top and full roll cage. So you have to try and compensate with your driving. An there isn't any kind of vehicle built that you can't get hurt in, so as you get older like I am, you learn to slow down and drive within your abilities which do deterioate with age. This is in no way a knock or suggestion even that Lew was doing anything at all wrong. A friend of mine wrecked his Daytona that weekend at Sears Point because a rear trailing arm came loose. All, the best Lew and I look forward to seeing you up here soon.

Ron

Damn, Mulvey. I heard about this over on Corner Carvers and thought it might be you!
Every time I see one of the Cobras going out on the track with nothing but a short hoop between the driver and almost certain death it gives me a shudder!
Especially when they have a passenger who doesn't even have that.

Exclamation UPDATE!!!

From Janet (12/3):

Here is last nights update on Lew

<<Lew is unchanged for now. He has pneumonia. Not
unexpected though. His surgery has been postponed until the end of this
week or into next week. They spent the day clearing his lungs.>>

Also, I heard from Frank today and he says that anyone wanting to visit Lew should check with the hospital as right now he believes that it is FAMILY ONLY. Randy if you could pass this message on to the Cobra Club it would be great.
