Thumbs up Track day --Cobras only

David Ray put together a special event for us.

With our special considerations Open car, Single hoop, double hoop, don't want to run with primered RX7s, and (some) care about the shine on the car being there at the end of the day.

So, Hooked on Driving has secured a date at Thunderhill just for us cobra nuts..

I have run two cars with David and highly respect his events and in car leadership.

Hooked on driving - cobras

I'm Gonna Go

I'm gonna take the Budgeiser car

Thumbs up Sounds great...

just like that locomotive motor you've got in your Cobra, Terry. That is one serious car, amigo. You're right about David and Hooked on Driving, they do a terrific job and really help improve your driving skills in a no-pressure, supportive way. Maybe if I plaster Ford stickers on the Z06....

Take care,

TT

Talking Hooked on Driving "Cobras Only" --- info

May 20th 2004 – Thunderhill Raceway
Cobras Only!!
35 Car Limit – Tons of Track Time and Instruction

Hooked On Driving is known for conservatively run track events with an emphasis on safety, learning and fun. This Cobras Only day is oriented specifically to the Cobra owner/driver who treasures his/her car, but would like to “try” driving it on the track. With many track days leaning toward quasi-competition, Hooked On Driving avoids this by starting with high quality instruction, lead and follow, and an approach aimed at preventing anyone from getting carried away. No stopwatches, buddy vendettas, or telemetry – just learning to drive your car in a spirited fashion while being monitored by experienced instructors. It’s said that learning stops once you go past 7/10ths of your capability (or that of the car). This is an event that is focused on working up to 7/10ths, while allowing you to enjoy your cars in driving the awesome Thunderhill circuit.

Advanced drivers? Yes – we’ll have a “C” group, for drivers with arm restraints, fire bottles, and experience running on the track. However, we’ll want to influence even our C group to use this day like a golfer would use a driving range – practice and improve – and see the results at the next competitive event you run.

Last but not least - Bill Emerson of Emerson MotorSports will be on hand to assist in self tech inspection and service on your car.

∑ Cost: $295 including lunch (limited to first 35)
∑ To Register: Go to www.hookedondriving.com - click on events and sign up!
∑ Questions? Send any inquiry to info@hookedondriving.com

Designed for maximum track time balanced with mandatory classroom instruction and run group feedback debriefing sessions.

Cool FAQ Hooked on Driving - COBRAS

This note from David Ray of "Hooked on Driving"

Terry: We've had several inquiries about the Exclusive Cobras only day on May 20th at Thunderhill. One regarding helmets - normally the track rents helmets, but these are open face. Unless you have a coupe, you'll need to borrow or buy a Snell rated (SA 95 or 2000) helmet that is full face with visor. We have arranged a 10% discount off regular prices on race gear like helmets at www.winecountrymotorsports.com which is located at Infineon Raceway. They will sell you an appropriate helmet. Its also a very cool store and worth the drive. We also recommend but do not require gloves for the Cobra event. A tech sheet that we use is available to download and use yourself or take to your mechanic. Go to the www.hookedondriving.com site and click on "pit stop" - you'll see the document. Also in the same place is an overview of "your first day with Hooked on Driving" that is very helpful. Hope this helps - again - if guys or gals have been wondering what their car would be like on the track, this will be the conservative place to try it. We will have an advanced group as well....
David

Cool Good Day Snake Drivers

This note went out to the folks coming next week.

Good Day Snake Drivers...Just thought I'd check in with last minute details for next Thursday. We highly recommend that you come in the night before - we have a corporate rate at Golden Pheasant Inn (530-934-4603 X 0 )- mention Hooked On Driving...
We'll be at the track when it opens at or shortly after 7:00am. Bill Emerson and Dennis Ratto will be there to assist if you have questions in finalizing your tech sheet (its a download on our website under "pit stops"). There is an air compressor on site. If your car is all set, you don't really need to check in til 8:00am, but we enjoy chit chatting and talking about how fast we'll be if your early. Our driver meeting will be at 8:30am. This will be a very special day, as this will be a very exclusive group - you'll have no shortage of track time. (there is race gas and expensive racing unleaded at the track)
We will begin with some car control exercises that will be ton of fun while you get to know your Cobra a bit more intimately. A couple of you have more experience, so we'll look forward to hearing your input as the day proceeds. After drills, we will use the original Thunderhill race course of 1.8 miles to get acquainted with moving along at a quicker pace. Don't worry about getting your money's worth on this course - I raced it for 5 years and its a blast. Just not quite as much testosterone involved. If things go well, we'll move to the full course as the day proceeds (advanced drivers will definitely have an opportunity for full course). All in all, it will be a major hoot for all. Myself and my two most senior instructors Mike Benzon and Dev Clough will be there and we'll break into groups by instructor so we get to know one another well.
Lastly - this is an event that we'd like to do 2-3 times a year, but our numbers aren't there yet. The car count is currently 13, which means an awesome time for you guys, but we'll need to add cars either this time or in the future. If you can make a couple of recruitment calls we'd appreciate it - there's plenty of room for several more cars. Having said that, we're excited to work with you and your very cool toys...look forward to seeing next week.

BTW.... IT WAS AWESOME!!

Oh, and here's a picture that "proves" I'm faster than Terry ; )
