[BACC] - Does the BAR use a Dyno?
Hi Guys,
[Not Cobra specific]
Quick question: Does the BAR use a dyno or just a sniffer?
It's been a year since I went, but I'm curious if they have "upgraded" to the Dyno...
Thanks,
Randy R...

Scott,
...but did they have one there?
Background: a friend of mine has a grey market Ferrari. The DMV lost the DOT paperwork from years ago, and now he has to start all over again with the smog stuff. His car passes the snif test, but not when on the dyno. He needs to go to the BAR to complete this process, so the question is whether the BAR has a dyno or do they just have a sniffer?
Thanks,
Randy R...
P.S. BTW, which BAR localation did you refer to?

Randy,
If your friend with the Ferrari has to go through the process all over again, I am afraid he may have to go through one of two Labs certified by California. Not the BAR.
These two labs, one of which is in Napa and the other in Southern California will make BAR look like cake walk.
I Ihope he doesn't have to.
Try $1100.00 for PRE-TESTING and $1100.00 for the actual test....
That is IF it passes.
$12,000 is what it took to make my once legal Porsche California compliant.
While I was there I did see a few cars and was told someone with a certain Ferrari spent over $80,000 to make it comply.
I wish I was making all this up. I am NOT!..
If he has to go there, have him contact me, and I may be able to give him some insight.

Turk is right.
BAR in Sacramento does not have a Dyno and has been contracting the tests on those cars since I was working for an importer in the 80's. They are very strict. lights, smog, door reinforcing. It use to run about 15k to get a Lambo converted and certified.
