Old Car Picnic this Sunday 10/10
Someone posted a notice about the upcoming Old Car Picnic at Golden Gate Park's Speedway Meadow, but our server crash disappeared it, so here it is again. Speedway Meadow is between 25th & 30th Avenues and John F. Kennedy Drive. I've never done this before, but it is a great location, so I'm probably going to stop by. It's too early for me to call now, but for more information, call them at (415) 386-2572. It will start at dawn and end at dusk. Rich

A quick update: I talked to Jim O'Keefe, the event organizer, and he said this is a low key event, with only one vendor (burgers, dogs, soft drinks), so feel free to bring your own picnic stuff, if you desire. The cost is only $15 and the profits go to charity. With decent weather he expects up to 1,000 cars (wow!). Y'all come on by. Don't make me be the only snake there. Rich

The weather was perfect for those of us who arrived at 8:00 or so. A little damp for those who arrived earlier, but they got dibbs on the best spots around the BBQs. I saw a half dozen Cobras scattered throughout this large grassy meadow. Perhaps a gang of Cobras next to a BBQ in the shade is something to consider for next year? A nice, low key event with friendly people with *all* types of cars. I'll consider this next year. Rich

I attended this event and was wondering which car was yours?
I was there as a 'driver' helping a friend out by making sure his '69 Camaro Z28 got there and home safely. (Tough job eh?)
Regards,
Doug

Doug: My Cobra is black with teal stripes. Not much chrome; a fair amount of aluminium, some of it polished. Not fancy; built for business. And big fun! I had a good time but left about 2:00 PM. Had to go to a barby, drink some Shiraz, etc. I hope you enjoyed yourself too. Old Z-28s are fun; I had a '70 until the gas crisis forced me to sell it. But with my Cobra, life is good again. Rich

Teal!
I did see your car! It was also at Dream Machines last Spring too.
I seem to remember a car with this or a very similar paint scheme for sale last year. it was in Nevada, if I recollect; Same car?
As the attached photo indicates, that color tends to catch my eye!!
Regards,
Doug

Doug: You are correct. I located my machine on Cobra Country. It was built in '96 by someone in Nevada and he brought it to MiniNats a couple of years ago where I purchased it. It looks about the same, but the drive train and suspension are now much improved. To be honest, I would've preferred an all black car at the time, but the teal stripes have grown on me. Maybe I can get the Sharks to sponsor me! My first car show was at the Dream Machines at Half Moon Bay and I plan on doing it again next year. Besides a lot of interesting old Fords (my favorites), there were a number of cool WWII fighters, including a number of classic Mustangs, a couple of Yaks and even a Messerschmidt 109E. Wow!
Your bike looks cool, looks kinda like my beast's little brother. See ya' at the next breakfast in Mt. View? Rich
