Marin coast N Calif.
The fish (2 King salmon) about #20 each were caught on one of the boats out of either Berkley or Sausalito. I still get excited every time we go under the Golden Gate (hopefully twice) on each trip! I watch the fishing reports from San Francisco, and when they are catching them, I go! Usually catch a limit (2)

P.S.
Salmon season opens up in April I think.

Randy,
There were no smog requirements in Calif. until 1966. I have had two 1965 cars and they had no smog equipment and were not required to be smogged. So if the person uses an engine pre 66 except the 427, there is no smog. My 65 / 390 had a PCV valve but they did not start the every other year smog testing until 1966 and then only on 66 and up cars. There are no standards or smog equipment made for pre 66 cars here. That is why I am saying that if you have a pre 66 engine of any kind, you do not have to have any smog equipment as there was no such thing. I have a 1965 Comet right now that is my daily driver and I have never had it smogged since day one. It has a PCV valve only. See Decooney's reply above. And since the engine this guy has is a 1964, there are no levels to smog it to if you sell it so I don't know what they would use there. But the other every year smog tests would apply to any engine after 1965,however the standards were pretty lax then and if you have it tuned at all well and the right equipment it should pass. If I sell my Comet, I don't have to have it smogged because it is a 1965. Howard's1969 engine would require the smog equipment. So we are talking about completely different engine years here.

SB 100 isn't a restriction to registering your car. It simply exempts you from the smog check and emissions equipment requirements.
You may still build and drive your car here in California. You may use the age of the chassis or age of the engine to determine the year of emissions equipment the car must have.
If it were me... I'd build it and drive it. What's a few tickets for not registering it???

OK- Different scenario- I got my Midstates through Sb100 in ***-****(CYA !!)- My engine is a '71 Cleveland. I went to CHP and the officer asked what year I wanted it registered as- And of course I said 1965. He said OK- and firmly stuck a 'smog exempt ' sticker on my frame. I got my title from Sacto and it is a 2004 SCV title. Cool-
No chassis/engine year reference anywhere.And-they used my VIN number from my old Titles Unlimited title.Just transferred all the info. It was totally easy and Everyone was co-operative and actually helpful. It just cost a WHOLE lot of $$$ !!! It might have helped a little in that the CHP officer owns a 65 GT350 , and really had to talk me into giving him a ride !!

Michael:
As I recall, an unregistered vehicle (in California) can be towed and "stored."
Of course, it will be released when you pay the towing and registration fees. I guess if you can't register it--you can't pay the fees. At $60-$100/day storage, it could get expensive by January 2006!
I suppose if you don't get stopped, you're home free................

Hey Larry,
Did you go to the CHP office on Junction in San Jose? If so, then I had the same CHP officer do my VIN - he's a good guy!

Hi Randy- Sorry 'bout the slow response-been on the road for work !!
Yes- Same guy- If everyone in this mess had his demeanor it would have been a lot easier. I wish the weather would clear up- My car hasn't been out of the garage in 4 months !!- battery is probably dead !! I've pretty much been out of the BACC scene since early last year- time to get going again. I was really ready to sell mine after all the DMV delays. I know it's time when my wife actually says she wants convertible weather !!! i look forward to seeine everyone again.

Hey Larry,
I understand... no need to apologize.
I turned on a couple friends who needed VINs to this particular CHP office, and they came back with huge smiles and rave reviews. The officer there is a "real car guy", and as you know, this makes a world of difference.
See ya soon,
Randy R...

I just completed my sb100 registration for my car and it was issued in January 2004. No problem with the smog ref or CHP or DMV.... Just pay your money
