sb100 title varification
I'm going to look at a car this week that is SB100 registered. I've never bought a "kitcar" before so I don't what to look for as far as the validity of the title is concerned. What should I see on the car and the title to know I'm buying a legitamate car?
Also, is my understanding correct that if I buy the car, I just go to DMV and register it, pay the taxes and I'm done? No smog inspection required then and for ever (until the law changes!).

There will be a sticker on the car. To be honest I don't recall what is printed on the sticker. Maybe someone can take a pic of the sticker and post it (my car and this computer are not in the same town or I would do it myself).

Good Idea!
That would be great if someone could show me a picture of what to look for and even post a pic of a title (with secure info blocked out).

The tag will be white with black writing. It will have the vehicle identification number, sb-100 sequence number and bear the california seal...

Someone recently had the same question and someone posted a picture of their sticker. Try using the search function and you should be able to find it.

I have followed the SB 100 for a while and feel that we here are heading in the same direction with our EPA (Environment Protection Authority).
The main thing is to make sure that the car is 100% right. At the end of the day, if you buy it ''you buy any non compliance".
The EPA here are not accepting the answer that.. "this is how the car was when I purchased it".
I'm sure it's the same there.
Don't even consider it, if it does not comply. The vendor will be only to happy to show you all the compliance stickers and paperwork if he/she is genuine.
Good hunting.

Also, look at the title (pink slip) to see how it is registered. If it is registered as something other than what it is (kit car, special construction, ect.), do some checking. The SB100 sticker is about 3"x 4" sticker with all the above mentioned info.

Registration should also show the year of the car as "0000", not 1965, 199X or 200X, with "X" being the year first registered. There should be a separate item showing the year first registered. As Scotter said, Special Construction is shortened to "SPCN".

My recently acquired LAE is an SB100 car and the registration specifically states:
MAKE: SPCNS
DATE FIRST SOLD 00/00/0000
CLASS: CD
*YR: 1994
My SB100 Sticker is clearly visable on the FIREWALL
It has the SB100 Number and ASSIGNED CA VIN listed as well
It also states that the car is a 1965 Cobra Replica
Hope this info helps you!!

You may not have the assigned VIN sticker if the CHP let you keep the car's original VIN. The CHP Officer that did mine let me keep the SPF VIN as it was stamped into the frame and on a plate riveted to the firewall. Also, it didn't come up as a 1965 Mustang or some such when he ran it.
