Mike....if you can get a logical baseline for jetting on your motor from someone who has a setup like yours, that would be a good idea if you still want to put your car down on the rollers in Livermore. Then, based on your HP numbers and A/F ratio results you can modify your jetting at your own pace back home, if any is needed. The rejetting is really very easy, although it will take a little longer since you need to remove one of the carbs. You'll need to get a new set of "reusable" blue float bowl gaskets if you don't already have them, maybe some new carb to intake manifold gaskets, and a set of jets - up and down - from what you will currently have in the carbs. Maybe a post on Club Cobra of SCOF will help you with coming up with a close jetting combination.

I purchaced these carbs from a shop called Blue Oval Performance back in 2002. When he sold them to me he said he would re-jet them for my application. For all I know the jets may already be OK, they just seem to run a little rich to me perhaps that can be adjusted on the dyno.
I think that it would be worth the $$ to get on the dyno and see if I am even close...

Bill: I'm still hoping for for a free run on Ted's machine to see how close my A/F ratio will be after my jet change. Unless this gives me over 500 RWHP with crisp throttle response up through 6K RPM , I expect I'll want to join you folks in Livermore for more fine tuning. Besides, I want to check out your 3"x14" drop base air cleaner. I don't expect it to fit under my stock scoop, but I am willing right now to jack up the rear of the bonnet a tad to see if that will work and how it will look. Hmm, any way to pick it up earlier? I need to realize some of that bottled up horsepower, but not at the expense of a funny car scoop! Rich

Default Livermore Dyno Day Moved!

Looks like we'll need to move out the date for the Livermore day. Since Mike, Giovanni can't make it and Larry has to put more miles on his new motor and the weather for this weekend looks wet, I moved the date to 4/8 after checking with John at Modacar.

Slot your calendars. Hope Mike will have his carbs back from Pro Systems by then and Larry will have a few more miles piled up on the 347. Rich, any plans on joining?

Bill: Since I was out of town last weekend, I missed the last dyno tune at Ted's. Glad the weather was kinder to us this time. I hope to get him to check out my beast as soon as the weather gets better (don't want to get water spots on my beast). Unless I get lucky and everything comes out perfectly, I will need further tuning. I will let you know shortly if I will be joining you guys on 4/8. Rich

Is there still room on the 8th? I'll be picking up my body on 3/31 and would like to join you if I can get the car together in time.

Thanks Bill. I'm a big "maybe", but hopefully I can get it together in time to make it. If not, I'll just come watch for a while!

I hate to be typing this messsage, but by the looks of the weather forecast, it looks like rain or showers are very possible for Saturday the 8th. The dyno shop owner said he would pencil in Saturday the 15th just in case of rain on the 8th. Early this week I will call John at Modacar and ask how late in the week I can pull out of the dyno reservation for the 8th. For now, I would also pencil in Saturday the 15th for a dry day(?). I'll post messages this week to keep you all up to speed. As I recall, we have myself, Larry, Mike, Giovanni(?), Alden, Rich(?), and Chris. Anyone else want to try for a dry day?

Bill

Bill: I guess we should be should be happy with our weather in general (and we are), but Dyno Saturdays have been tough. The first clear day coming up appears to be Tuesday, and I am off to Ted's to see how close my A/F mixture is. The beast ran great yesterday, but I need to see those dyno numbers. If I still need further jet changes, I am up for the 8th (weather permitting) or the 15th. I'll keep you up to date. Rich

I am happy to read this post, I sent my carbs off to Gessford Machine and I will most likely not have them back by the 8th. But I will be ready for the 15th I am in for the 15th.

Well, since it looks like guaranteed rain for this weekend April 8th, the date for the Livermore Dyno Day has moved to April 15th. Looks like lots of sun in the extended forecast. Nothing but doom and gloom for the 8th. Hope you all can still make it.

Bill

Bill: I finally got to Ted's (in between showers) to check my new A/F mixture. Got the secondaries right, but have to back off a couple of sizes for the primaries. It is running well, but far too much power is being lost back from the flywheel. So, I have some tinkering to do. I like Gregg's annular discharge booster setup for his Holley and will probably do the same. Plus more.

So, unfortunately, I won't be ready for the visit next weekend to Livermore. Have a great time guys and crank up that horsepower. I'll be ready for ya soon. For the rest of you, don't forget Baji's Saturday morning. Rich

I got a call from the dyno operator at Modacar in Livermore. Since weather looked iffy at best for this Saturday the 15th, he wanted to know if we were still in the mix. I told him I wanted to wait until Wed/Th to decide. But, he has a request for a closed dyno session with somes cars that are not weather dependent - read closed coupe type. So....I told him that we will cancel for this Sat the 15th. The next open Saturday is 5/13/06. I give up. He's open every day, M-F for dyno work. If we can commit to 5/13, the Saturday before Reno, let's do it. I'll need to get back to John at Modacar to confirm, if we have a quorum. Who's in for 5/13? Oh, by the way, 4/29 is available, but I can't make it since the car show at the Danville Merchantile is that Saturday.

Chris....I decided yesterday morning to just go ahead and make a slot for myself on Friday the 21st at 10:30 am. Streets should be dry by then. If you want to join me, give Modacar a call and make an appointment with Casey the dyno operator or John the owner - (925) 371-5888. I'll take a little time off from work Friday the 21st and get this done.

Bill
