You have come to the right site. There are many people here who have a wealth of information on Cobras and more. Read through the BACC Forum and you will see that we meet in Livermore every Saturday morning and in Mt. View the first and third Saturday for breakfast. You will meet some great people and be able to see and learn about Cobras of every size, shape and color. You will also meet our Presidents. Which is all of us.

Be sure to check out Cobra Country. You will see many interesting Cobras for sale. Do purchase Curt Scott's "The Complete Guide to Cobra Replicas, Fourth Edition." It is full of information you *need* before purchasing one of these snakes.

Just my opinion, but I would hold off doing anything on Ebay until you do the above and have much more knowledge about these machines. For $40K, I would think you could find a small block (probably 351W) used, but not abused, Cobra. Do some looking through some of the other forums and you will learn a little about what some of us think is important. For me, that would include workmanship, balance and something *close* to the originals. And and since you are a local guy, a California licensed SB-100 car would be important. Check out one of those threads and you will see what I mean. Good luck, and I'll probabaly see you at breakfast sometime. Rich

Hey Rich,

Very nice welcome message you wrote... One small correction, however, the every Saturday meeting is in Dublin, not Livermore.

Tia, Rich's advice is very sound.

Good luck,
Randy R...

If you are in San Jose there is usually a couple for sale at Bascom Ave indoor showroom. There is also one in Pleasanton. Another good site to look at some for sale is www.cars-on-line.com. Then look under Shelbys.

Oops! You'd think after autocrossing for years at Dublin's Fair Grounds I would know the difference between Dublin and Livermore Good catch, Randy, we don't want the poor guy to get lost. Rich

Definitely hit the Athens breakfast meet. Do your research on Cobras before you buy. There are some subtle (and some not so subtle) differences between all of the manufacturers, so it's good to get educated before you buy. You're shelling out some good money for one of these puppies, so choose carefully.

The guys at the Athens breakfast were helpful in my assessment of what I wanted to buy. I asked to see a ERA 289 FIA and an Unique 289 FIA, and I arrived to find them side-by-side. I took a lot of pictures, and made my decision.

Check out the Northern California Shelby Club web site. I showed up at an autocross a couple of years ago and got a ride through the course in a pretty wicked 428 powered Cobra---somebody even loaned me a helmet!
