Anybody registered a new Kirkham and Cali lately ???
Just kind of curious, I'm thinking about taking the leap. I'm really worried about hitting to many snags. I can't believe the they would even call a Kirkham a "kit car". Dave any insight ???

While I havent registered one, it should be the same process as any other cobra.
Path of least resistance would be find a nice 64/65 FE block, put in a reasonable cam so you can pass the sniffer test and don't even worry about SB100. Just smog it every two years.
Unfortunately that's not what I'm doing in my SPF, so I'll be in line Jan 07 for an SB100 number.....

I'm not quite done, but the process is just like any other cobra/kit car. You can go with or without the SB100, depending on your motor. The fact that the Kirkham is a very nice, very complete "roller" doesn't really change things.

The CA registration process is for specially constructed vehicles - meaning vehicles that have been constructed and do not have a previous/registered/valid VIN. It doesn't matter if you built it from the ground up, purchased a kit, or even a roller. Registering a car using SB100 is pretty painless....... if (and it is a big IF)... if you can get one of the 500 SB100 numbers.
Good luck!

quicksilver,
Go for it,
The process is painless, but nerve wracking, and well worth it.

SB100 "was" nerve wracking but here's a bit of advice. You should try to band together at a DMV and try to get the whole "group" to register at once. It worked out that way with 9 of us in Santa Clara. 2 Gals asked how many of us were registering with SB100 and we all raised our hands.
Then she bypassed the stupid numbering system (I didn't advance /online the appointment figuring this was not a normal thing anyway) and the other woman took all our paper work all at once. Then after 20 minutes of waiting, she issued out 9 SB100's at once. They knew that once they got the person in Sacto, it'd be next to impossible to get them again if you all entered one-at-a-time. I think here, there's saftey in numbers. But that's just my wooden nickles worth of experience.

Quicksilver,

I did.
As others have stated, the 500 SB100 numbers are taken very quickly and the allotment gets used up more quickly every year. For this reason I would not do it again.
