Default Nevada Registered SPF on Ebay

I saw this SPF for sale on Ebay today:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/super...ayphotohosting

Nevada registered car and has a pretty low reserve price based on the options. Engine is brand "X" (suspect oil leak...due to overfilling?...Hmm).

The seller mentions in the ad that "it is titled as a 1965 Shelby American in Nevada so there are no smog or dmv problems for california residents." I emailed the seller to ask him about how the car is titled, because there is no such thing as "no dmv problems" in CA.

I know that cars with bogus VINs are problem, but I'm still not 100% clear on which state/titles can successfully be registered in CA (and can be taken through SB 1578). If it's standard procedure for a state to register new Cobras as 1965, will that present problem in CA?

There is no such thing as a 1965 shelby cobra in California unless is is an original 1965 shelby cobra............That's a spf so it won't fly at the dmv as a shelby

Doug,

I'm no expert on this one, but I know a lot of cars have been brought into CA from other states and several must have been converted from state XX '65 to CA SPCNS registration. Perhaps post your question over on the registration forum and see if you get any feedback from someone who has done it?

As you already know and thudmaster said too trying to bring it over as a '65 is a dangerous plan.

It sure is a nice looking car at a very reasonable price. The oil leak thing is the only head scratcher, might be minor, might be a pain in the @$#.

My car was titled as a 65 Ford in Michigan. When I bought it and brought it to Ca I corrected the title and registered it as an SPCNS. It was no problem as far as actually performing the task. The problem is that it counts as one of the 500 smog exemptions allowed each calander year. This year the 500 numbers were gone by 11:00 am January 2nd. What that means is you would have to wait until 2008 to register your car.
