Here's a web site for you with some great roads for bike touring. I've used it in planning BACC & personal trips around the state.

http://www.pashnit.com/motoroads.htm

enjoy,
Mike

Dave, I just noticed that the site now charges for membership (it didn't used to) even so the information, pictures, maps and routes that the author provides is worth the $20 especially if you have limited time and your looking for the best scenic fun rides )

I am a native of the Bay Area, but I have a suggestion for another trip. Start in Las Vegas. Drive over the Hoover Dam, and see the Grand Canyon. Next drive up through Zion National Park on your way to Bryce Canyon. There is so much to see in that area of Utah. You could spend years there. The colors are unbelievable. You could head farther north, and stop at Kirkhams for a visit, and then onto the magnificent Yellowstone National Park.

I left S.F., and drove through Tahoe to do the reverse of what I described. I saw so much, and in only 10 days covering 3000 miles. Also in Calif. do not miss Yosemite it is very dramatic.

I forgot to mention that the Tetons are on the way to, or from Yellowstone. I went into Yellowstone from Idaho, and left via the Tetons, and Jackson Hole Wyoming. if you like I can e-mail you some pics.

Along the coast, take a chance to see the Giant Sequoia (Redwoods), my truck was named after them (Toyota)

Thumbs up North Coast!

Go due North from The City, cross the Golden Gate bridge and tour the Napa Sonoma "wine country" for a day or two. Continue North hugging the coast all the way to Oregon. Breathtaking scenery and some quaint little bed-and-breakfast towns for stops. The coast of Oregon is just as beautiful. Come back down thru Lake Shasta and then cut over to Redding and take hwy44 into the Northern Sierras. Go South to Tahoe and Yosemite. Or you could do the whole thing in reverse.

One thing though, last time, if you didn't do State route 1, from SF to Pismo beach, it's a "must do".

P.S. Find a computer and do a post when you get to Tahoe, maybe one of us NorCal Cobra guy's will drive up and take you up on that free beer!

Thumbs up re things to see

Thanks jdog/Mike and the others for the info, last year, went south from SF doing Montery, Carmel, down through Big Sur, cut inland around San Luis obispo, did Sequoia, Kernville, up to Yosemite, no way over top(snow) back South, ended up on the 395 up to Bishop, back into Death Valley and on to Vegas, we had a fabulous time, have done Grand Canyon/Hoover Dam(not on Harley) going to Vegas in June, really looking forward to California and Oregon, will try to hook up with some local members once in Tahoe, it will be a pleasure to buy someone a beer, thanks again for the info. Regards Dave
