Default Rebuild my water pump

I posted a week or so ago a problem I am having with my almost new water pump. Someone replied with a link to a rebuild kit. Just after I viewed it the CC server had problems and I lost the reply. Can whoever that was provide me the link for a rebuild kit.

Thanks.....

Mike

If its a stock pump, just get a new one, I dont know if rebuild kits are avaliable for a water pump, I've never seen a kit for one.

Pump rebuilding is easy.

There are a few conditions that I would toss versus rebuild:

1. is the shaft corroded so bad that you can not slide it through the casting?
2. is the casting distorted?
3. Is the shaft distorted?
4. Is anything rust-welded?

If things look like there is Little more than a failed seal or noisy bearing, I would be inclined to rebuild...especially if the casting is polished or aluminum or both.

Pull the propeller, impeller or what ever they want to call the vaned wheel that turned the water. Don't bother trying to save it, it's a fifty fifty on you bending it.

Pull the entire assembly apart. inspect the area of concern. If it is the seal, make sure it just failed and wasn't impaled by junk. if it was a bearing, check it out.

Put in a new bearing and seal. I use a deep well socket to push the seal down the shaft so it beds. There may be instructions in your water pump rebuild kit.

Anyway, make sure the shaft turns freely and without problems before you drive the new propeller, impeller or that thing that turns the water. You should use a straight edge to set the propeller from the face of the access plate.

Put on the access plate with RTV on the gasket and put the pump back on the engine. Pressure test to 16 PSI and you should be ready to go.

Hope this helps.

New pumps are generally low cost and worth the reliability factor. I purchased a new Milodon high flow for less than $100 bucks. Stock was even less.

Better to replace this type of part since problems can add up fast if you need a tow once on the road.
