Do you know how/if this will involve pre 1974 cars, or cars with SB100 exemptions? I haven't seen the bill, but this may only be directed to change the currently bi-annual inspection to an annual one. Likely only to be a boon for the testing stations.

Lets see, follow the money....my guess is that the smog testing stations had a representative meet for a backroom orgy with a couple of tree-hugging legislators and CARB members, and the result of their un-Holy union is Bll 616.

Just a guess, based on how things usually work in Kalifornication.

Just a warning to those of you from out of state, if you are gainfully employed, please don't even consider moving to this state. All the freaking free-loaders, public aid-seeking loafers, and useless leftist politicians will bleed your wallet dry. If you do choose to move here, be prepared to be one of the 6 or 7 of us who actually contribute to the economy, while everyone else comes up with additional entitlement programs designed to extract every last hard earned dollar from your wallet.

Jeeze, I hate this state (or at least what it's become).

Rant over. Sorry. I have anger issues .

E-mail from SEMA and Hagerty stated that S>B> 166 would require annual Smog check for vehicles 15 years old and older. The funds generated will fund the purchase of these older cars. Pre 1976 motor vehicles would remain exempt under A.B. 616.

For what it's worth, I hold Kalifornia Economic Contributor card I.D. #4. I never brake for Democrats and would be tempted to spend a lifetime in jail if Dianne Feinstein, Gloria Allred, Jerry Brown or other democrat-nazi's ever set foot on my property. I think it would be poetic justice for some of these clowns to die while being run-over by an old, clapped out looking mid-sixties (insert manufacturer name and model here) that still passes smog inspections.

"The bill would exempt all motor vehicles not subject to annual
inspection
, and would require the department to develop a methodology
to exempt vehicles or classes of vehicles likely to pass annual
inspection."

The first part of that sentence covers SB-100 registered vehicles, in my view.
I'm personally not going to lose sleep on this one.

I tend to agree with Red. I believe this bill calls for the annual smog inspection of vehicles with model year 1976 to 1992, and I think these cars are already subject to bi-annual inspections. So, if I'm correct, then this is no big deal. However, I may be wrong...

YMMV,

In developing our testimony for exempting CT Composites, CT term for kit cars & replicas, from emissions testing , the CT registration records were researched.

As of Feb., 2007, there were 337 Composites registered , as compared to over 3,000,000 passeger car registrations, negible impact.

Vehicles over 25 years old are considered to be antiques and already exempt from emissions testing.

Other supporting points were Composites limited annual mileage usage , not used for daily transportation , fair weather ( applies in CT ) cars, restricted usage by hobbyist insurance policies and supports a public good , such as charity car shows, cruise nights etc

How odd and here I thought the governator was a republican..... I wouldn't worry about this if I were you guys as this pretty much sums it up:

All motor vehicles not subject to biannual inspection
shall also be exempt from annual inspection

See? A Tempest (or a GTO?) in a teapot...

It may be that those that are affected IE non SB100 register will be required to go to a "Test Only" station in lieu of a full on Smog Check.

Default Clarification

Here is a clear picture:

California Annual Inspection: SEMA-opposed legislation has been introduced in the California Assembly to require annual Smog check inspections for vehicles 15 years old and older. The bill would also require that funds generated through the additional inspection fees be deposited into an account which can be used to scrap older cars. In 2004 a new law was enacted in California to require the lifetime testing of all 1976 and newer model-year vehicles. Pre-1976 motor vehicles would remain exempt under the measure. Yes Pat, I'd like to buy a vowel please.

F_CK YO_ ASSEMBLYMAN DAVE JONES!!!!!!!!!!

Just another way for CA to generate more money by using the environment as an excuse. Just waiting for the day they repeal the exemption status on all our classics so they can put their hands into our ever growing classic car piggy bank.

What bothers me about these proposals is that nobody ever follows the reasoning throught to the end.

Let's assume this testing finds a bunch of old clunkers that are then removed from service. That's nice, but what are the former owners of those cars going to do?
Buy another vehicle, perhaps?

The greenies never stop to think about the enormous energy & resources costs involved in producing a new vehicle. They just seem to have tunnel vision regarding tailpipe emissions; pollution from making the cars, or the total life-cycle energy cost never enters into the discussion.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
