Pacific Grove Concours Auto Rally
I did this a couple of years ago and I thought it was nice. You take the 17 mile drive, nothing fast. Maybe we can get a group together?

Joe,
Have you already signed up? I does sound like a good time. I guess we are all a little slow around here. I would be up for it.

You know I love it down there, but every time I go down on Historics weekend I always regret it because of the traffic.

Here is why...
We stay across the street every year from the Chataqua Hall in PG. My Wife grew up there. We are in NorCal now, and use to check out the Lighthouse car groups as they drive by. After 13 years, this year we are skipping the whole Monterey/Historics/Pacific Grove thing in favor of Portland Historics; and here is why. I know many people who are bailing out on it down there for many reasons, and here a a few of mine; regretfully.
1. Hotel rooms are limited and rates continue to go up; owners want more $
2. Limited areas to drive cars; it's just a big parking lot down there...
3. Limited areas to park Trailers for those who come from afar.
4. Too crowded to drive anywhere down there on that weekend
5. Drives on Highway One are even crowded that weekend
For people coming in from out of town, staying 4 night-mininum there, plus costs of food and everything, it's not that attractive anymore and if you really want to have fun driving down there, just pick any other weekend than Concours weekend.

I agree Duane. With all the events, Concorso Italiano, Historic Races, auctions (3x), PB concours, drives, The Quail, they might as well chain off the entire Monterey Peninsula, ban driving and enjoy one huge parking lot/car show.

If you're close enough to make it a day trip, the traffic on Friday won't be a big deal. After going to the historic races off and on for nearly 20 years, I'm pretty much done with it. I took my dad last year, and we could hardly move around.
My buddy and I went to the SF Region SCCA Vintage Sports Car Classic at Laguna (a.k.a. Mazda Raceway) in April. What a breath of fresh air! Great selection of cars, absolutely no crowds whatsover, and we parked in the lot right next to the pits. They had an historic NASCAR race with 20+ cars which was great. Wherever you're located, you should search out SCCA region, VARA, or other lower key events to check out some great vintage racing.

If we could find a larger and affordable lodging place just on the outskirts of all the chaos to stay and safely park our cars and rigs, and drive in each day, I still might even consider it for next year. It's not as much fun for me if we don't bring the Cobras. Wishful thinking I guess.
Any ideas out there on such a place?

In the past, we've stayed at the Seascape in Aptos, where I stay alot for business. A bit of a drive in, but it's a damn nice drive rather than bumper-to-bumper.
Past several years, though, I drive in for the day (Saturday) and come home.

Jamo, let me know if you plan to do that this year, maybe I can meet you somewhere and just drive in for the day on Saturday (early).

I will be there for the Historics. Heading up on Thursday with the Cobra and my Father who is flying in for the event. We are staying at the Comfort Inn which is near Reservation Rd and Hwy 1. Taking the Cobra and will cruise the Pebble Beach/17 mile drive/ Carmel area on Friday and do the Auction Friday night and maybe Saturday night. Races on Saturday. Richard Stokes will also be there in is SPF. Head home Sunday.

Does anyone know if the Shelby Club will be having a corral?
Lewis Downs used to arrange this but I didn'nt hear anything abotu a corral last year due to his passing.

Buy them fast because they will sell out.

We just go for the event, have dinner and go home. We have access to a friends house there which we have done in the past when we stay a couple of days. I have never looked at hotels. Scott I am going so lets hook up.

My wife and I have registered. As the time gets a little closer, we can set up a time and place to meet for the drive down.
