CSX3112 in 1979
CSX3112 looksa lot different from the last time I saw it. In 1979 it was red with black int. If I recall a gentleman by the of Pete McManus owned the car an he lived near Phila. A really nice guy as he gave me my first ride in a 427 Cobra. He also had a 1966 GT-350 parked next to it at a gas station, I believe it was ser #SFM6S710. I was out cruising in my 1st Shelby GT-350, SFM6S2295 and stopped to get some gas when I saw the back end of the GT-350. I jumped out of my car to check out the Shelby Mustang and nearly had a heart attack when I saw the blood red 427 Cobra parked in front of the Shelby. The Cobra was in mint condition and he didn't flinch when I asked for a ride. I took about fifteen pictures which I still have. Back in those prehistoric times if you saw a Cobra it was usually real.
Sure looks a lot different in silver. It had a single four bbl back then. It had the sunburst wheels also. It ran better than it looked. The photos are 35mm. I will have to get them didgitalized so I can post them. Bob

Ron - I took a quick glance an Canepa's website, but didn't see any details regarding the new hours. I probably missed it.

Doug, I'm on their email list from attending the BACC End of the Year run last year. We had a special private tour on a Saturday. They sent me an email with the hours. Could be another great End of the Year run again if they have more cars. Canepa's is a real TOY STORE for boys and the repair facility is amazing and clean.
Check out the inventory (Mustang race car)! Almost as good as the Bikini thread ....

Great to hear that they'll be open regular hours. I attended the End of the Year run and thoroughly enjoyed the tour.

I had a chance to meet up with Dangerous Doug in Scotts Valley this morning to see his how his 289 FIA ERA build is coming along.
Doug and I took a quick run over to see the Canepa Motorsorts Museum. The museum is open to the public Saturday's from 9 am to 3pm. The first floor is filled with a variety of cars for sale. Most of the cars in the museum on the second floor are part of Canepa's own collectin.

Sean who works for Canepa ended up taking Doug and I for a full tour of the facility, including the shop and back warehouse where they store incoming and outgoing restoration projects.
Pretty impressive and worth a visit even if you've been before!

You know it's a good day when you get to ride in a Cobra, and then get to see some outstanding cars. It's even better if you stayed up until midnight working on your own Cobra, and then getting up at 6:30 to take your grocery getter down for new tires...
Canepa was totally *****'n. Waaaaaay to many cars to describe.
A few of my favorites:
Duesenburg #1 ---yes, THE very first Duesenburg ever built is at Canepa.
A REAL 289 FIA, one of seven, Dan Gurney's ride. Didn't get the CSX, but I'm sure somebody here knows it.
Don Prudhome's (sp?) vintage rail dragster. How would you like to jam down a 1/4 mile with the rear differential keeping your nuts warm?
A 427 S/C stripped down to the frame and aluminum, undergoing a full restoration.
A couple of gullwing Mercedes Benz'.
A bunch of Cobras, including Reggie Jackson's 427.
A nice Woodie wagon.
And on, and on, and on. What a great tour Sean provided. Sean used to work for Jack Roush (sp?), and is head of procurement. I asked him about the Cobra that was for sale, and if I could take a look at it, and he graciously provided a pretty comprehensive tour. Simply amazing.

The Dueseberg has been owned by the same family in Hawaii since 1918. Canepa is going to do a full restoration for Pebble in 2010.
The FIA car is CSX2323 - http://www.canepa.com/collection/car...bra/index.html
Don Prudhomme's dragster - http://www.canepa.com/collection/car...ter/index.html
So many great cars to see.
