Bowtie take heart. If CS had gotten his way back in 1962, all his little ACs would have had Chevy power but GM, in all their infinite wisdom, didn't want to compete with their own Corvette, so they refused to sell engines to him. I, too am one of those people that "put the engine in backwards" according to the local Ford-powered clan. I'm running a poked and stroked 454 in my NAF oldie. The 496 puts out 552 HP@5400 RPM and a whopping 596'# of torque at 3400. These are flywheel numbers at sea level and the car is downright perky. I run a TH400 with a 2400 stall back to a 4 link coil over 9" Ford, 3:50 gear with a Powertrax unit. The car's a little fat at just under 2500#s but still the HP to weight ratio isn't too bad. Had to go with the big Chevy, just in case I ever wanted to go fast. I hate to be late, love my little hot rod.
