Hi Bowtie Snakes,

When I bought my Hunter Cobra, I never imagined I would put a Chevy engine in it. After a friend suggested I install a LS1, I studied the engine and really liked what I saw. I found a brand new 2000 Corvette crate LS1 on Ebay and bought it. I received it about two weeks ago.

This is my first experience in building any kind of car. I hope I can get some techical advice/help from you guys as I enter this exciting challenge. I am going need all the help I can get.

John

Greetings from balmy Arizona. My old NAF S/C sits on a 2x4x3/16" home made frame. Mustang II front end and a 9" coil over rear end with 3:50's and a Powertrax traction control unit. Power is from a bored and stroked 454 that is out to 496 and with 552 flywheel HP @ 5400 and 596#ft @ 3400. All that lovely bottom end torque goes through a 10" Hughes convertor to a Hughes TH 400. The car is a little hefty at just under 2500#but is still pretty perky. The engine is very docile and streetable. No loading, stalling, or overheating. Excellent throttle response from an 800 Edelbrock carb on an Air Gap mainfold. The aluminum Edelbrock rectangular port heads allow the 10 1/2 compression to work just fine on pump gas. Dead stop traction is a bit of an issue even with the 325/50/15 Drag T/As. They will get pretty sticky with heat but some rationale thinking is needed before a total stomp and steer. Definitely a fun little grocery-getter. Karlos

Smile My LT 1 COBRA

I love the LT1 with the 6 speed. Plenty of power. I purchase a kit that stored it for ten years. This guy was bitten by the CR bankruptcy in 1992. He did not start the kit because of missing part. Thanks to club cobra I was able to find the missing parts. He bought the kit for a Chevy so I finished it that way.

Have been driving the car since July 1 2003. Took about 9 months to build.

Does anyone have pics of the mounts and such for SBC in Cobra, engine bay shots, and the like. My project started out with a 351w, which I broke before I even got to drive it. I am now modifying for SBC, dirt mod alky motor that I will detune to run on gas for the street. I am looking so that I don't have to reinvent the wheel, so to speak. My email is: rdgrnr@tctwest.net. I would appreciate any help, Thanks!

vettestr,
I have received your reply and i wasn't trying to piss any bowtie
lovers off , only requesting info from E-M owners in my area.
When you read my post did you not see the part about the
"Thrill" i had driving a cobra with a SBC under the hood.
Thank you for your reply

Bonos,
I,ll start with apology for flame regaurdless of how I understood your post and still do. I did think I was posting directly to you and not on main board so shows I scewed up again.I realize my point of view is no more relavent than any other so have made it a personal rule not to inject my emotions but in a rare mood and just struck me funny. I did read the THRILL part and thats what all these Toys are about so please have fun and enjoy. I do not think I am that far left or right so maybe others will read same way, and even agree with ya in some cases. Point is not my place to either way. Jeff C

Default Shamrock Cobra

Hello Guys,

I have a 15 year old Shamrock Cobra that I imported from South Africa and have just rebuilt my 010 Block 350 with new Sportsman II heads with a Killer cam. I was told that this combination is producing about 430hp and to tell you the truth, I believe it really does. It will actually suck your eyeballs out from 4K rpm up. My Shamrock uses a Jaguar IRS rearend and Jag front running components. With the new heads and balancing the rotating assembly with new pistons, etc. I only have about $2200 in the rebuild. I also have a 5 speed Toyota transmission and it shifts like butter. Its hard to beat the chevy engine and the sound is killer. I loved this Shamrock so much that me and my brother decided to start importing the rolling chassis for everyone else to enjoy and you can check out our web site at:
www.shamrockautocraft.com

Thanks guys,
John C.

ps. Check out the centerfold of Kit Car Builder Magazine in the December issue if you get it. Jim Youngs did a great story on Shamrock Autocraft USA, Inc

Another Aussie building a Classic Revival Cobra with LS1 and T56. Been working on it for a couple of years now and trying to fabricate as much of it myself as I can.

There is a bunch of progress pics in my gallery if you want to check 'em out.

Cheers

What kind of mounts did you use for the engine, factory stuff or your own fab? Have finished mounts for mine, created and welded by me. would like to see what others have done, do you have any close up photos of the mounts? Is it easy to get SBC parts there? If you have photos close up could you email them to me at rdgrnr@tctwest.net. Thanks

I'm using the factory GM Corvette engine mounts. You can see them in these shots of the chassis.

Cheers

Mike, are those aluminum or magnesium mounts? They look really cool and pretty functional, with lots of room to get to them. Did they come with the powerplant or donor? I may have to change what I fab'd to something like that so I can have simplicity and ease of replacement. Thanks for the photo's, I saved them for reference, hope you don't mind! Thanks again,
