Yea,

One of the nice things with Chevy is that you always have plenty of HP. You can afford to sacrifice a few for comfort items.

You all know that if it is styling you want in new cars these days that you'll have to cross seas:o

BBC

496 Chevy with Hilborne, I like the idea, better bottom end than Ford, rev like sh*t!!!!!!!

Doing a Ford SB 393 these engines seem to still develop around 500ftLbs etc, and they look original but cost a lot with good interneal hardware.

One other way of looking at engines is the later crop of computerised management engines developing around 400-450bhp with some minor modifications, surely this would be a better option compared to spending another $15k to get 500bhp from a purpose built stroker, and still having some economy - as a bonus?

While owners of Ford powered vehicles are bragging about how many other vehicles they have "smoked" in a race, the Chevy "stooges" brag about how with Chevy engines "parts are cheap, and they are easy to work on".

Most of the 1970 - 1990 GM powered vehicles I have seen, don't even have the original engine in them or the engine had to be rebuilt! Can you say junkkkkkkkkkk!

Growing up I was a Chevy guy, and while I didn't have a mullet I did have a camaro. All of my buddies were all in different camps IE: ford, mopar. We had some pretty good arguments and discussions about what made each better. As I get older, its funny, I am not in any camp anymore. As the years go by, I just have an immense appreciation for the cars of the era. I love Cudas, split window Corvettes, Cobras oh yeah, the Superbird is something to behold. A buddy of mine has a 1924 Model T, one day we were working on the coil. Each cylinder has its own powerplant and they are each made of wood...it's a work of art.

Historical question,

Why do all the Rat and Mouse motors have the distributor in the rear of the engine? Every Hot Rod build seems to have clearence problems with the damp cap.

Getting back to the waltzing matilda thing...during the last world cup (for which the result has been completely forgotten...) the barmy army hijacked waltzing matilda a little, changing the words to "We shagged matilda...", which we found most ammusing considering matilda is a sheep.

With that little change the song could now easily qualify as the Gasholes theme song.

Too many Kangaroo punches at an early age can have a really bad effect on the brain and make you do really dumb things like.....put a chevy engine in a Cobra!:3DSMILE:

It is not a widely known fact that when Shelby drove the Cobra prototype he knew immediately that he had a winner on his hands. Trouble was, he realised that demand would far exceed his and ACs ability to supply and that furthermore true sports car enthusiasts would soon realise that the car was more hot-rod than thoroughbred.

In a stroke of genius he put "Powered by Ford" badges on it, making it much less desirable and targetting it at a less discerning buyer...

Sure that makes sense! Let's make a car and sell it to the public but let's not make it desirable because we do not want to sell too many.Too much of a demand will surley do us in!:JEKYLHYDE

Sal Gerace 01-26-2005 05:14 PM

I am just trying to respond to as many topics as I can to get my "Senior Club Member" status

BevanWright 01-26-2005 07:13 PM

I dont know how I got that - I have only a third of your posts. Maybe Chev powered Cobras have a higher status?
