It has been posted many times before that CS tried to get funding from GM in the early days. GM did not want to dilute or harm their own market for the Vette that was VERY profitable for them so declined.
I am glad he built his dream with the Ford badges because it fueled the competitive wars of the time. CS beat the giant (GM) on many tracks making this history even richer with stories.
Today I build a Hot Rod version or replica that uses the GM engine/chassis for the majority of our customers. A FE or SB does bolt right in too but these are a much smaller percentage.
The cost to build a Ford that survived at the same HP of the chevy was higher for a long time but that is also changing if not already there. The industry has supported the crate engine theory and made HP parts a large part of their market. Now you can buy a hot rod engine right from the dealer with a warranty ta boot. I can not build an engine for the $$ my dealer will deliver engines to my dock. They are not ALL OUT race engines for what I spend but much more than a stock Mustang or Camero replacement engine.
There will always be the need for K Crafts and other higher end builders but the dealer does fill that big hole in the middle ground.
My cars are so far from the purists exact clone concept that I can do anything I want. If it feels good do it, you paid for it and it is yours so enjoy. I do and have already taken the hits from the hard core purists. Even they will still accept an adult beverage out of my ice chest and visaversa at a car show or run when the sun drops for the day.

Hey actually, I'm just kidding about my avatar going for Chevs as well!! I dont mind Chevs, but you would never ever see me in a HOLDEN. FORD FOREVER!!!

ALSO another thing I would never do is fit a Chev engine into a ford Car, as many rodders do nowdays. THAT IS THE BIGGEST CAR CRIME YOU CAN COMMIT!!

That and fitting a Rotary engine into a T-Bucket!!!

Anyone else seen strange engines fitted in to unlikely cars??!!

Box...you bluddy stirrer you!

You'd never see me saying chevs are a heap of $hit...never....no...not me.

Like some folks say Fords make good boat anchors..I'd never say that about chevs.

Because the bluddy aluminium they make em outta doesn't last 4 months in salt water....bluddy stuff just corrodes away.

Something to do with electrolosis.

I'm outta here....again

Default Price: LS7 505HP Crate Motor

Source: Popular Hot Rodding October

MSRP will be approx $17,000 for the exact same high tech engine that will power the new C6 Z06.

Low price from the GMPP dealers is $13,995, includes everthing from the oil pan to the throttle body but does not include the engine wiring loom or the oil tank

Clearly by fitting a chebby into your cobra you are not planning on going fast. Nor are you intending on having a reliable vehicle.

the 68 vv cooke small block vette driven by allen barker was consistently faster than don roberts in the 289 cobra, altho they had two years of great races. it is still true as bothcars still compete. obviously the corvette pulls better, and the cobra handles better, but the delta is that barker and his brother did so much chassis stiffening and weight adjustments that the corvettes handling improved significantly - real leading edge for the day.

What the heck are you guys smoking??? Shure you can find isolated and therefore irrelevant cases of Chevy outperfoming Ford, BUT everyone knows that dollar for dollar a ford small block will out perform a small block Chevy.

I built a 351W stroked to 393 for a little less than $6k and it makes 530/550. Can anyone with a small block bowtie with 393 cubes claim that? $5k more for supercharger and fuel injection for better gas mileage and 60% more power abd still have $3k left over. The only thing Chevy rules over is mediocrity. Where has Chevy been all through racing when Ford's factory guys where stomping the crap out of everyone in sight from both sides of the pond?

Jeffco, I'll just have to assume that you're not referring to NASCAR or NHRA racing? Week after week, I look in the ProStock ranks, and racely see a Ford even qualify, How many record holders in SuperStock? Yes, there are six or so record holders in Stock. At least in NASCAR, the FOMOCO's do sometimes make a decent showing, even maybe leading a bunch of laps, but still don't come up with the W too often. Yep, them Chevies are junk, unless you want to get where you're going, when you want to. That being said and my 2¢ worth, thank goodness we all don't like the same thing. Life would be boring.

Seems like Chevy did more than OK with the SB 2006 Z06 427 @ 505 HP and no gas guzzler tax
