Default T56 6 speed gearbox modifications?

I recall someone here posted about using the T56 6 speed in their Cobra, and modified the transmission so that the shifter was further forward, using a previously sealed off portion of the tranny?

Our Cobra has been up and running for a while now, just considering future work to make it easier to drive, and a shifter moved forward a foot or so would be great

I'm about to give this a try, I just ordered a universal t56 shifter by b&m that they claim has the same bolt pattern as the 1-4 skip shift cover. I don't have Mike's abilities but I believe I can cut the rod and then have a machine shop build the new shift rod cup.

Is there any new information out there on this before I start? Both B&M and Hurst have had calls on this mod so the word must be getting around.
