Default new 383 injected crate motor

I sold my driver and new owner opted for a injected 383 crate engine. Advertised at 435 HP with ability to run pump gas. Install looked pretty good and scoots right down the road, not like the big block he replaced but he can now burn pump gas.

Just an update on the 383 we installed in this beast. The engine come rated at 425 HP and 410 TQ.each @ under 5300 RPM. But this was with their injection or the Ram Jet system
The owner insisted on the aftermarket Edelbrock port injection system so we installed it for him. I do not like this product at all because + noisey injectors clicking very loud. = UGLY pressure regulator that has special fittings, the inlet nipple has no way to install braided line ( I had to braze fittings until I got to point I could install a AN fitting--- still ugly = very difficult to build ignition timing curve with any real initial lead. Funky intake manifold flange for throttle body. No real time download or recording capability. No way to display paramiters on 1 page, just go from screen to screen in their order with a paramiter 1 or 2 on each page. No way to hook up laptop and really tweak. If you want to change limits you have to send EPROM back to Edelbrock .NO OVER WRITE ABILITY. It sucks for how I want to use and is fairly expensive or way too expensive for what it does.

Cobra Make, Engine: Classic 427, I purchased it May 2005, the kit was bought in 1991. I'm not sure when it was completed! Installed GMPP Connect & Cruise 376/525 with T-56 S/M 3.55 gears about 2 years ago! 1/4 miles is with old setup!

Edelbrock makes some good stuff, FI is NOT one of them!

Hello Al,
So you are new owner of a Classic thats Chevy powered. I hope you enjoy many miles of fun but mainly the Cobra people are what it is all about, a great group with a common love.
The Edelbrock system does have a few good points but for my dollar just not a system that allows owner control and system design like many others for making it fit your engine. Edelbrock requires you to fill out an engine spec card and burns a chip with fixed points to their set point. It does allow a small window of + or - from set point but if you want more change than the window you have to wait while they re-burn your chip and mail it back to you. Most other companies allow you to change from fire breathing dragon to grannys car for church with the stroke of your laptop.
For me Holley Injection is the better choice in terms of function and performance. I do admit you are on your own for the old system 2 seconds after they release a newer revision or model. I bought a system on Monday and they released its replacement on a Friday so no longer wanted to talk about the old version other than send it in for warranty repair if broken.
I am also a fan of throttle body over port injection for the do it yourself application. A global change or problem is something I can find or understand. The higher tech. of port design is too much for this mind to deal with. I had hard time learning electronic over the old mechanical injection and am just now getting comfortable again.
