Twin Front to Rear stripes on Cobra
I am getting ready to paint my Cobra. Can anyone tell me the width of stripes, front to rear?
Thanks,
CobraZach

Talk to DV. The way he does it the strips are tapered front to back. Plus he can give you the layout for the pin strip, if your going to use one.
I know they don't look tapered, but they are...

Hi Zach,
Capteddie is right DV will know the dimensions for the tapered strips on the CR body.
Here is a link to the ERA site with the tapered dimensions for their body.
http://www.erareplicas.com/427man/stripes/stripes.pdf
They need to be tapered to appear straight when you are looking at the car from the front or rear.

Cobrazach,
Not Meaning to ignore you. Buried right now . Give me a couple of days and I will give you the dimensions I made up for CR's. Believe it or not the front end tapers down at the nose almost 2 inches! (I'll try to get to it tonight but no promises-gottarun!)

Yo Zach,
If you look at the ERA dimensions they taper 1.5" on the front and 1.25" on the rear with the narrow dimension toward the front and rear respectively.
This allows the visual image of the stripe to appear to be parallel to the human eye. The CR dimensions may be a little different but, you get the idea.

Cobrazach,
Stripes for CR's:
Find dead center on the front cowl panel = put the windshield in place. Doesn't have to be bolted in. Bottom inside of the windshield you will see two small threaded holes. (Used for the windshield stanchion) Divide the distance between these two holes and you now have found the center point of the Cobra.
I then use -two inch- masking tape from front to back using the center point from the windshield and of course the center point of the 2" tape.
Measure points are the width of the stripe only and do not include the pin stripe.
Cowl at dash: 11 1/2" inch wide to top of nose 9" inches
Then using an 1/8" "roll" of pin striping tape I place it on the top edge of the nose, let it hang almost down to the floor. Hanging perpendicular from the cowl, I let gravity take over. When it is done moving around I mark where it would hit the nose opening and the lower intake area.
Takes care of the front.
Rear: Starting at the rear cowl area stripe starts out at 11-1/2"s wide.
Bottom of the trunk or rear lower panel narrows/tapers to 10-3/4. Note, be aware the tape/stripe is going to have a tendency to go WIDE as it goes over the trunk.
PIN STRIPE:
All pin stripes run parallel with the main stripe. Their is an 1/8th inch " stripe color pin-stripe. Then a 1/8th inch car color, then the stripe color as indicated above. Repeat for the outside pin stripe.
I paint the stripe color first - NO masking- let it sit 24 hours then mask off the stripes.
This picture is of cpteddies white stripe masked off, waiting for the car color.
Good luck and post pictures!
Questions ??

My AMX has the factory stripes which are not tapered, looks odd when viewed from front and back, almost like the stripes were incorrectly applied.

CobraZach:
Got any pictures of those stripes yet, and do you have any insights or lessons learned.
Has anyone ran the stripes all the way around the hood and trunk. To keep it straight this could be fun.

DV: We are thinking of carrying the stripes completely under the hood and trunk, this way when hood is open you can still see the stripes. I saw it on a couple of cars at the wscb in Reno a couple of years ago.
Craig thinks this is something we should have. I am standing on the sidelines trying to think it over.
