Cobra Make, Engine: Classic 427, I purchased it May 2005, the kit was bought in 1991. I'm not sure when it was completed! Installed GMPP Connect & Cruise 376/525 with T-56 S/M 3.55 gears about 2 years ago! 1/4 miles is with old setup!

Default BBC in a 1992 CR

Anyone running a BBC in their CR? I'm currently running a SBC 383 but have a GMPP 572/620 with Victor Jr heads sitting in the garage! Add a pair AFR aluminum heads and roller cam to the 383 or go with all the hassle of putting in a tall deck BBC?

If anyone has photo's of a BBC in a CR I will forever be in your debt!

Thanks,

Al

Al, I have a NAF, not an AC but I do run a 496 BBC. You could probably get the car to go as fast on a road coarse with a healthy 383, due to the reduced weight, BUT, it won't have the stump pulling, corn plowing torque that 572 has. A really big motor makes for a great street machine without needing to be very radical. You will have some issues with the tall block installation, but to my thinking, it would be worth it.

My 383 has a good bottom end, Eagle rotating assembly and JE forged pistons. With a nice little roller cam and 195 or 210 AFR heads I should see over 500 hp. With the CNC Victor Jr heads the 572 should see 700+hp and big torque. With a stock convertor and little traction the stock GMPP 572/620 did 12.2 @ 115 mph in my old 454 SS pickup. It's well over 4600# with my fat butt in it! I just re-did the old SS to make it a bit more streetable. Now 468 and 700r-4, out of the box it did a 12.9 @ 107 mph. That was just putting it in "D" and pressing the loud peddle. It also needs a better convertor with the cam and weight of the SS.

Not sure yet but thinking!

Excellent job with the engine compartment. I'm saving to use as a goal for mine.

If I go with the 572 I'm going to need 2" minimum primary tubes on the headers. Headers and hood clearance are my two major concerns!

Al, I've checked with every header manufacturer I could and nobody makes a 2" block hugger for my BBC, except Hedman(I think). My problem with theirs is that they require a front plate engine mount setup to give clearance. My headers are 1 3/4" and I'm sure my 496 would benefit from larger primary tubes.

I'm sure it would like some bigger headers Karl. I had Edelbrock shorties (1 3/4) on a 496 I had in the old SS, it never ran like we thought it would from the dyno numbers, 580hp/590tq with 2" long tubes. The 468 in it now has the same heads and cam but with about 1/2 point less compression. It has Hooker Super Comps with 2" tubes and 3" exhaust with super 40's. It's a bit loud but seems to do the job.

I have not been able to find any big tube block huggers SBC or BBC that I thought could be made to fit! No matter SBC or BBC I think custom made is the only way to go. The OEM headers from CR-II are a joke! They are tiny at the flange, I think they are choking the motor I have! Needless to say more heads and cam is not going to do any good if you can't get rid of the spent gasses!

I have a 515 bbc, with 2 inch headers with 3 in a half inch side pipes, really comes alive at 2000 rpm and up.
