CRII Broken Door Cable
Dv, Just broke the little cable that runs between the little gizmo by the seat and the door latch . It looks like a cable off a bike. Get one at a bike shop? Any tricks to installation? Jim

James,
I have my old ones that I did not use. I can send them to you if you want.
Edit:
Mine are Shimano, .045 wire about 48" long

Do either of you have the electric door release? Mine has both the cable and a rocker switch in front of the door near the dash. Interestingly the electronic mechanism is exposed to the weather! If I ever get caught in the rain it'll be toast.

Jim,
They are bike cables, usually Shimano....first one I have ever heard break... had to have one break eventually. Very easy to replace!
Duffer. make sure all connections are soldered and heat shrunk! The Motor/plunger should be basically water tight. Also you should have a fiberglass shield that covers them from debris from the wheel??? You can also add wheel grease to the plunger which works in more ways than one!
Jim-Terry does have the right ones!

Thanks to all for the replies. Terry what did you use in place of the Shimano cable? DV seems to confirm that they are Shimano cables and the 48" looks about right. How much do you want for the cables?
Jim

Jim,
I used Neat Knobs and brackets from Watsons Street Works. Then bought items from McMaster-Carr and Home Depot. Mine are all mechanical, no cables. Or you can do what Art Burtt did. Look in my photo's and there is a picture on the first page. Picture name is Door Latch1.
If you want pictures and a list of items that I used, just let me know.
No charge for the cables. Just e-mail or PM me your address and i will send them to you.

Terry, PM sent. Found the pic. It looks like a lot of modification. I do NOT have your expertise. Did it take a long time? Thanks again.

Mine did not take long. Only about 2 hours for the first one then after I knew what I was doing, only about 30-45 min for the second. Also I mocked it up before doing any modifications which helped.

Jim,
I have the cables boxed and ready. FYI, these are the orgional "USED" cables, sheath and handles. If you want new cables you might want to get them from Wreckerboy.

Terry, If I didn't let every kid at every show I was at climb into the driver's seat the cable would probably still work. I think what you are sending me will be fine. I'll just have to pick some of the little tykes up and haul them out without opening the door so much. They are much lighter than the therapy horses we use at The CENTER. I have to drag the damn horses around a sand arena for a couple of hours a night twice a week and then lift the kid off the horse . This will get me by until I look into your solution this winter.
Jim
PS let me know what the shipping charges are so I can send you a check or cash. Thanks again.

Jim, Cables are on their way. Don't worry about the shipping. I might need a favor sometime.
I did notice that only one of the cables is about 48" long and the other one barely sticks through the sheath. You only need one right now anyway.
Art, That is the same picture that I pointed Jim to in my gallery. Thanks for sending it to me a while back. I am going to take a couple of pictures of my setup and put them in my gallery in a couple of days.
Take care,
Ok, trying different ways of adding a picture to a post. I'll get this figured out the correct way yet.

Hey Jim,
I didn't make the mod to my car but it is very similar to what Terry and Art have and pretty darn simple. The knob located just behind the door pushes straight down towards the floor and the latch releases. The pics show the passenger side.

Terry, Thanks for sending the cables. I owe you one. Masnaka, that looks really simple. I just wonder where the apparatus came from? Art, that looks simple but where do you get the bits?

Terry, You must know someone important. You shipped on the 28th and it was in my mailbox on the 30th. I will try to install tomorrow. Will let you know how that goes. Thank you again.

Jim,
Wow, that was quick. Hope it helps.
Check out HRAY's build thread. He did his with a few extra parts and a welder. Not the prettiest but it is functional. All he has to do is slide the bar that sticks through the body up and down. Really simple actually.
Here is a link to his "Flicker" picture.

Terry, I watched Hray's build with envy. The guy has so many talents that I could never hope to emulate. Not just a mechanical sense, but a great display of artistic talent finishing the body. I try to keep things simple to combat my lack of talent .
