Heater Core Leak

I have a heater core leak and I'm wondering if there's a way to take it out for repair other than removing the whole dash.

Also, the cable from the heat control panel has broken where it connects to the on/off ball valve (which has also broken). I've found a valve that looks like it'll work but I'm lost as to where to even start looking for a new cable.

Thanks for any insight...

Over the years I've just come to the conclusion that it's just best to bite the bullet and replace it. Save a lot of screwing around.

As far as the cable many parts stores have a source to make up custom cables. I've done that through my local NAPA.

OEM heater core was Mustang II, cable is from Chrysler "K" car. They are no longer available.

Above post is absolutely right; A MINI Vintage Air unit with Heat/Def. works great!
