Coating for rough side of fiberglass

I'm planning on coating the rough side of both the firewall and the underside of the body. I've read about two options:

1) 3M Pro undercoating which comes in a spray can from the Zone,

2) West Systems epoxy which the boat guys seem to favor heavily

I'm leaning toward the 3M. Certainly easier to apply, but I'm thinking the added flexibility over the epoxy may be good as well.

I'd appreciate your input, including other options. Thanks

Truck bed liner, in a spray can gives a nice finish that hides minor imperfections. Its also good for coating the underside of fender wells to reduce topside paint stars from kicked up gravel. Makes a much nicer finish than the brush on liner.

I've heard Lizard Skin is good also. LizardSkin® Spray-On Insulation : Lizardskin

You can also apply brush or roll on truck bedliner. You might be able to get that in different colors, don't know but I do know that it comes in black.

You can also go to a hardware store and buy elastromeric (sp) paint. That is the same paint that they use on the foam shaped decoritave accents that they put around the windows and garage doors on houses. I have it on my house and I even put some on the area on my outside shed to keep moisture from coming between the shed and the concrete when it rains. The one that I use is white but again I do not know if you can get it in different colors.

i had a guy paint some of my fiberglass with flat black epoxy style primer. looked and worked good.

I read an article on Lizardskin and it sounds good. There's a local rep for it that I'm going to check out.

Whatever you use the surface will need reasonable preparation, more importantly is protecting the underneath of the tops of the guards that are prone to star crazing due to stones, missiles etc.

Some options:
1. Paint the area and its not that visible.
2. Use a lightish underseal maybe like has been mentioned in this post.
3. Also use some medium density foam glued in the main stone chip areas much like alloy body cars use e.g. Kirkham have it.
4. Make an extra skin (fiberglass) and epoxy up using urethane foam strips for some standoff like an extra skin mounted say 1/2" off the underneath of guard.
