302 vs 351 headers
I came across a set of headers for my Cobra project, but they are listed as 351 headers. We are running a 302 with GT40P heads. Will these headers work on our car and line up properly to the side pipes?
Our car is a Classic Roadster Cobra that was originally set up for a 460. Is there anything different between the big block and small block side pipes?
Are there other options for headers that won't break the bank?
Also, if anyone is interested, I do have a set of big block (460) headers that I'd be willing to part with. Contact me if interested.
Thanks....

Won't line up correctly...
A 302 block is 8.200" in deck height, a 351W is 9.500". There's quite a bit of difference in how the headers will be made in order to bolt up and exit the body in the correct spot. You will need 302 headers, or you will need to be creative on the sidepipe/header flange and body opening.

was your frame set up for the 460 motor mounts? Did you have to change anything on the frame to get the 302 mounts to work?

If anything your headers will set too low. I have 302 headers on my 351. I used the latest frame mounts that CR had which dropped the engine 3/4" and then still had to cut the body opening another 1/2".
My only real issue is that my oil pan only sets 3 1/2" off the ground and it is lower than the front cross member.
You can always put a spacer between the frame and the frame mount to raise your engine a bit.

The frame is set up for the 460. I have not yet dropped the 302 in yet, but I am anticipating having to fabricate mounting brackets to connect the 302 motor mounts to the frame since I have not been able to find a set of CR 302 mount brackets.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I will keep looking for a set of 302 headers or else get a do it yourself custom header kit.

SGR, Although Blykins is right on, BUT the 302 headers work just fine. Just trim the body as called for.
TERRY< that is about right with the CR mounts. One plus about fabricating the mounts is that you can raise the motor up a little. 1/2" works, even with the 302 headers.

DV,
I have the oval air cleaner and modified it to be offset to the carb (set back about 1 inch) which sets it inside the hood scoop opening but I have marks on the inside of my hood where the air cleaner barely hits. I shortened the carb to breather adapter but it is still too high. I need now to shorten the adapter another 1/4" or so (and maybe modify/relieve the air cleaner base) to get more hood clearance.
Nothing that a little grinding, welding and rattle can can't fix.

It's "always" something.

Ps. Using a Torker or RPM Gap intake?
