I have been told that the Cooper "Cobra" and the M/T "ST" share casings but are different treads and compounds. Also that the M/T "SR" uses an Avon casing but again very different treads and compounds.

So, assuming Avon is the best 15" tire for a Cobra, what is second best?

Saturnkk, According to a chart seen in another thread the Mickey Thompsons placed 1st. Avon's were not mentioned as the thread may be older.
Which 15-inch radials should I install on my Superformance MkIII?

I've been running the M/T SR's for a couple of years now--much better than the Radial T/A's but then most anything would be. So far I'm just a street driver although I'll be getting up to Willow in March.
Anyway, my SR's had the same vibration at speed as described before by others. Ended up taking the car to a specialist that trued the tires to where they were actually round (there's a concept!), and the car has been vibration-free ever since. But by the time I bought the tires, rebalanced them, then trued and re-balanced them, I coulda just about bought a set of Avons. My next set of tires will be the Avons.
Cheers

I don't know about the SR performance but by the sounds of it they are a good tire choice when you get them round. I only wish they had more of a nostalgic tread pattern. The flaming tread pattern seems more appropriate for hot rods with flame paint jobs not Cobras. I have not actually seen them on a Cobra but that's my .02. For that reason and that reason only I would lean toward their St model or the ET's like I have.

John, When I talked to Mickey Thompson they actually recomended their ST's over the SRs. So it makes me wonder why more people voted for the SRs in the tire thread.

Maybe because the SR's have a higher speed rating?

Replaced TA's (due to age and negative reputation) with Sportsman ST's on my Excalibur. Followed a number of threads on CC to decide on ST's over SR's.
No complaints thus far and with letters out they look kickin.
