I wouldn't let having chevy weldments keep me from putting a sbf in it if that's what you want. I've had three different motors in mine and had to fab motor mounts to get the engine to sit the way I wanted it every time.

I contacted Jackie on Friday at Finish Line for the windshield and was told "everything is turned off until they can get through batch of new orders". Jackie directed me to Dana at International Wholesale for the windshield. I have not contacted them yet.

I am getting ready to send the frame out for sandblasting and powder coating since it has been sitting for the last 15 years (at least it was stored inside).

While the frame is out getting powder coating, I want to order the front & rear suspension and acquire a rear end. I like the idea of buying a 'package' from a vendor so I know all the components are designed to work together (if this makes sense).

The car will have a SB Chevy (400HP). Mainly used for street driving (not too firm/harsh ride), but autocross is not out of the question at some point (may require some changes in the future if I decide to go that route).

Items I need are listed below along with some names I saw mentioned in previous posts. I would appreciate any suggestions on the parts as well as sources and part numbers - so I don't screw up and buy the wrong stuff. I have not talked with any of the vendors yet.

Coil Over Shocks (QA1?)

Upper and lower control arms (Heidt?)

Steering column:power steering (Flaming River or DV)

Upper control arm brackets (Bethania Garage)

Rebuilt 8.8 rear end (?)

Again, any sources & part #'s anyone has would be greatly appreciated!

Don't worry about the chevy in your HotRod that is shaped like a Cobra. It is not a Genuine Cobra you are not being paid by AC- Shelby or Ford so that Chevy will look just fine between those frame rails. Just enjoy the ride.

I'm actually hoping to follow your build so please share details as you go. My car is complete but I do like to watch as others work. I made some changes to the rear end and used a Currie Fab-9 (over kill) with upgraded/custom coil over mounts. Look in my gallery for pics. My new set up is a much stronger assembly with double shear mounts for the coil overs. I used adjustable upper and lower control arms. Hotchkis uppers and custom fabbed lowers because of the length issues. Made the rear end alignment and pinion angle adjustments possible. Also the articulation of the suspension was much improved with no binding. I also found a big improvement in fabbing a stronger transmission x-bar support. You may also if you don't already have is weld in a bracket for a pillow block to support your steering shaft. Hard to locate before engine and headers are in but hard to install after powder coating chassis. I made a bolt in version which works well. Good luck!

Not sure if one is included with you kit, but while everything is still apart I would plan on putting in a shield over the drive shaft so that in the event that the universal joint fails, the drive shaft does not come into the cockpit. You can take a look at the ERA website for a view of what they use.

river are both excellent choices. Pillow Block on a CR? never needed one, but on the other hand, it sure can't hurt. Drive shaft loop? Absolutely, JEGS makes a universal that works just great. Used one on almost every Cobra I made. (But, full adustable upper and lowers are the way to go if a budget is not in mind)

hotchkis is ok, but a universal 8.8 upper control arms again from
jegs will do the job fabulously.

Currie 9" made for an 8.8 configuration....none better and worth every penny. (I remember the day "Double Venom" left a stock 9" at the tree racing Vipers ! )

You guys are great! Thanks for the tips. Wasn't thinking about the drive shaft loop, but totally makes sense. I don't want to see the drive shaft again unless I am under the car. :)

Now I am going to try and narrow the short-term items to buy and research the right part #'s. I may post the part numbers and links as a way to double check with you guys that I am buying the right stuff, if that is ok.

Good luck with that, I lived in NY till i moved to CA.50 yrs. ago, weather is great for cobra's but our taxes are not much better than NY. i made sure when i bought one it was a reg. & did not need the smog crap. !
