95 ford 5.0 mounts
Hello Don,
I am a new CR builder and am getting started. I have a frame from 1992 and motor mount plates from 2001 and am trying to fit a 95 Ford 5.0 with stock mounts. I had to remove the AC compressor, but the holes between the motor mount plates and the frame don't quite line up. I noticed there's two holes in the angled sides of the plates. should I try the lower holes or do I need 1978 Mustang II mounts?

Don Scott and DV, and perhaps now even CR, have CR frame mounts that let you use late Mustang motor mounts. The 302 should sit 3/4" - 1" higher than the 351W. Which motor mount to use have several schools of thought. I like the Energy Suspension polyurethane motor & trans mounts because it absorbs vibrations, but doesn't let the motor rock like the rubber ones do. If the motor doesn't rock, the sidepipes don't either. But there are other solutions which Don & DV will tell you about.
Could we convince you to put the 302 in something else and put a 351W, or 393W in your Cobra?

Indy,
I see it is your first post. Welcome to one of the greatest clubs in the world.
I think if you will go to NAPA and get two Mustang GT mounts #6021637 you will find these will work just fine. (use these for both left and right)
You will be able to mount the AC and Pwr. Steering pump if you want, but you had better be good at making your own brackets!
I'm sure you will be back with more questions, which we all look forward to. Do not hesitate to ask for help! You have come to the right place.
DV
Ps.. we're 2 hrs & 50 minutes from you (east) and right off of I-70.
Feel free to call, 740-852-5280, check out our web site, www.cobras.com, or better yet stop in!

Indy, Everyone is correct. Hey DV, I use the Napa#602-1639, what's the difference in the one you use?

thanks Don & DV
I think I know the problem. It looks like CR sent me two right side mount plates. I will try again with the right plates.
DV
I have a 351 but I didn't think it would fit with the double throtle bodies ( its from a '91 F350) anyways It's for sale ($75).

351 won't fit with truck EFI, but will with Pro-Jection, or carb.
It's your car, your motor, your $$$. Our opinion, you'll be happier with 351 (or 393) power in your Cobra.
Read some of the posts. First time some kid in a Camaro kicks sand in your face, you'll be asking about a 351 (or 460) build up.
You'll spend less time & money bolting what works on your car, and being finished with a given part of the assembly. The CR assembly manual can tell you HOW to put the car together, but doesn't necessarily give you the best advice on WHAT to put it together with.
The CR component shopping guide was written 10 - 15 years ago. There are better options available today.
I can tell you this. And I'm sure others share these sentiments. Building the thing can be both a labor of love, and an exercise in frustration. Driving it after you're finished building it, if you've done it right, rewards you 100 fold. There is no other car you can buy, at any price, like a Cobra.
