Sway bar
Just took that big fat 1.25inch bar off my c r cobra the ride improved quite a lot.Still corners great and suspension can move better. May take rear off just to see if any difference any input from any is welcome.

I think you will be better off putting one back on,1.5" is pretty big-I have a 7/8" front and 5/8" rear on mine and the ride is fine. Rich

I concur that 1.25" is a rather large sway bar for such a light weight car. I am not surprised that the handling was poor. If you decide to put sway bars back on, I would go with a smaller size.

To balance the car with that front bar, you need a 7/8" rear bar. Then you will be ready for a track day.

The front sway bar you removed from the front was from a full size bronco. CR used it because the dimensions were right. Well meaning advice from owners of other makes while appreciated does not apply to our cars. There are good threads about this in the CR forums. With a small block your car will ride better and handle better without a front sway bar. Unless it's getting to be a serious track car, you're better off without the rear bar too.

Sway bars
Thanks to all for feed back on sway bars.probably won't track car although it would be fun ,may remove rear bar also and see how it rides thanks again guys.

You definitely need to take the back bar off if you are not replacing the front-it will cause too much oversteer. My recommendation is a 7/8" from and a 5/8" to 3/4" rear,and you should be fine. Without bars I think it will sway back and forth too much. Rich

I notice without the rear bar and still using the original front bar my rear end articulates a lot more causing inside tire rub in certain situations...usually pulling in or out of driveways. Thinking I should put the rear bar back to tighten things up. I changed my rear lower control arms to an adjustable tubular type and so to install the rear bar I need to fab someway to attach it. Would the lack of a rear bar cause understeer?

Yes,it probably will-but it is safer than snap oversteer. It would be worth the time to mount a rear bar-but at least you can drive the car with only a front bar. A lot of guys on here only have a front bar-my car for the first 14 years of it's life included until just recently. Rich

All,
In the middle of finalizing the chassis from my 1990 CR originally built and now finalizing the roller chassis.
I fully agree that the front bar is way too large for this car.
My question is: Where did you locate a 7/8 front bar that will fit our cars? I have converted the front suspension to Heidts tubular and QA1 coil overs. The Hiedt lower arms have mounting points for sway bar with downlinks.
Any help in locating a smaller front bar would be greatly appreciated.

Look at other posts for suspension. Double Venom references them. Pretty sure it's tied to the coil over ones.

I used an MGB front sway bar, 7/8" -23mm, which, width wise, fit the front tubular lower control arms perfectly. Assembled my own links and used aftermarket/e-bay poly bushings and mounts for the sway bar to frame mount.

Hi Bulldog and MGM. The best source for info to begin with for the MGB front sway bar is Moss Motors, then e-bay. Lot's of info out there.
Moss Motors 7/8" front sway bar for all MGB's is the same for 72-80 and part number is 454-955.
Lots of used stuff on e-bay.

Hi-If street use no sway bar front or rear. If IRS it is a toss up. Not my opinion but from a very reliable source (Gordon).
